    Land Rover Double-header

Picked up Sunny in July, from a chap in London. For various reasons, Sunny hadn't been used at all for years, but supposedly subject to a full ground-up restoration. Well, the chassis and engine bay looked smart, and everything worked OK, til I got home anyway. The fuel gauge had a cute little...

    Land Rover Double-header

OK, thought it was about time to start actually making a thread to document the bruised knuckles and gritty eyeballs ... hopefully something I can look back and read over a nice G&T and a wry chuckle, when they're both pristine (ha). I decided to take on not one but two complete unknown...

    14J engine - auxiliary belt

Exactly what I got ;) Starting up just to test it out no great cloud of smoke, only needed a few seconds, fantastic result. Love those jobs that work well the first time, so satisfying!

    14J engine - auxiliary belt

Have had a good couple days mucking around on various repairs, one of which was the glow plugs and another sorting out a belt that'd work. Have gone for a significantly longer one than the 6221MC I'd expected - the original belt on this engine was a tiny bit longer but a lot skinnier (6mm wide...

    14J engine - auxiliary belt

Huh, so not the right belt then. Significantly too small even with the alternator adjusted right up close. Ordered a selection of belts at various sizes to see which one works the closest... Old one's finally snapped so Sunny's out of commission til I get it sorted.

1965 Series 2a Station Wagon in Holland

They say the first step is admitting you have a problem. You've got two though - so there's probably no hope ;)

Series 2 New Series 2a owner.... which bits are supposed to go where?

I'm on there too, they're really very friendly and helpful :) You'd be welcome.

P6 V8 manifolds and loss of power

Managed to snap the pump's outlet barb off (brittle plastic didn't like me pulling the nasty (?)PVC hose off) so have ordered a new one with built in pre-filter and one-way valve - it's got a 1.2m header rating so won't have problems at all fitting right in where the old one was. New filter and...

Defender front door glass white blocks

Well there we go, didn't know that. Do update us all when you find out what's needed then, @F&c4x4 !

Defender front door glass white blocks

Doesn't Sikaflex fix EVERYTHING? It's the unsung third part of the Land Rover basic toolbox - hammer, gaffer tape, Sikaflex! ;)

    14J engine - auxiliary belt

(Oddly enough, the Gates catalogue says that the FX4 had a 2286 cc engine)

    14J engine - auxiliary belt

Yes that's what I found at first too. And I can find even less about FX4 parts than about Sherpa/300 parts ... But on the basis that it seems odd they'd have used different belts for the FX4 but exactly the same one for every other version of the pre300TDI 2.5L, and given I can't think of...

    14J engine - auxiliary belt

Turns out the 6221MC is the Gates serial number for ETC7939 ... the 2.5 NA (12J) / 200TDI / 2.25L belt ;) So sounds like I've got the right thing.

    14J engine - auxiliary belt

You'd hope so wouldn't you! I'm not holding out much hope on that side, but a bit more searching through the history of the Sherpa/Freight Rover/LDV variants suggests that the Gates belt 6221MC, as shown here, is the most likely culprit even though strictly speaking the 14J wasn't a Sherpa...

    14J engine - auxiliary belt

Yes I expect that's what I'll end up doing, must be a Gates one or similar that'll fit!

P6 V8 manifolds and loss of power

Hope it goes well! My heater's not even connected ... no doubt the matrix is full of holes or something! Just refurbed the Ninety's heating and it works (as well as a Landy heater ever does anyway!) now so that's one job ticked off. Hope your paint is tougher than mine - bought some Simoniz...

    14J engine - auxiliary belt

Thanks both ;) Yes as mentioned I'm looking for the auxiliary belt! I have indeed tried searching and can't find any reference anywhere, or any version thereof (e.g. DAF 300, LDV 300, etc etc) - unusual these days not to find anything from a few variations of Google keywords! I did have a good...

P6 V8 manifolds and loss of power

Well fuel hose finally showed up, hadn't spotted it was on backorder when I paid for it all ... so will hopefully swap out the slightly tired fuel hose and the filter tomorrow morning if the weather's OK. I like the idea of just going super-simple, Shippers, works for me! Will take a few pics as...

    14J engine - auxiliary belt

Hi - the aux belt is looking a bit ropy on the Ninety, been trying to find a replacement and can't find a part number to ask for anywhere. It's a 2.5 NA but a 14J, can't find enough info on them to figure out (without buying one and just having a go) whether the auxiliary belt is the same as a...
