    How bad are they really?

Thanks. So comparatively speaking yours costs the same to run as a 24-28 mpg diesel.... That's not bad...

    How bad are they really?

I have asked him. Other info I had on it: £3950 I have a file of history. It came out of the army in I think 2000, then a private school in Worcester bought it as a grounds vehicle who had it regularly serviced with a fleet company garage using things like Mobil 1 as oil throughout its time...

    How bad are they really?

On the serial plate thing it says Code No. V8 1714 if that means anything. I'm assuming that means it was a v8 from new but could be wrong

    How bad are they really?

initially I had discounted the v8 due to cost to run but I have been offered a 1990 110 with a 3.5 v8 with twin 40l lpg tanks underneath (not sure on ground clearance yet). Yes, the v8 will be more thirsty but lpg is half the price so if it was say 14mpg that would mean a cost to run equal to...

    Where to look for one?

That's why I did consider Discovery 3 but too much to go wrong and not cheap to fix.

    Where to look for one?

For me personally, it's just not my cup of tea I'm afraid

Is the TD5 a lot better than the 300?

The problem is, it's not such a simple choice like it would be if I was deciding between a BMW 1 series and 3 series for instance. The V8 I was referring to was, I think, a Chevy v8 that I came across when Google researching engines etc. The D3 has more chance of needing a garage repair where...

    Where to look for one?

I'm buying it as a second vehicle. I did like the Discovery 3 but worry about all the electronics as with so many, in my mind, more that can go wrong and expensive to fix. The reason for going for this is I have taken up paragliding and some sites seem to need a good 4x4 to access. I have...

Is the TD5 a lot better than the 300?

It is the Defender I am after and live the idea of a V8 but 10mpg is not cool. I'm torn between the reliability and cheapness to repair of the 300 and the more refined and more powerful TD5 but seems by the replies both are good for different reasons and so I should be more concerned with...

    Where to look for one?

Ok, don't believe me, your choice. Just a hell of a coincidence that so many I've looked at say they don't check their messages often so leave a mobile number (most have exact same wording like they'd taken someone else's ad then just pasted that bit on the end).... Nothing odd about that at...

Is the TD5 a lot better than the 300?

I'm avoiding the Discovery 3 due to all the electronics that can go wrong but by comparison the TD5 is a plain Jane. I'm more thinking about reliability, mpg, torque etc. I prefer the dash on the TD5 but that alone is not a good reason to go for it. With a budget of £8,000 I'm thinking I'll...

Is the TD5 a lot better than the 300?

Im looking for a TD5 but should I also be considering the 300? Is there a big difference between them or is the difference so small it's not worth worrying about? While here, what do we consider high miles? Seen many with 160,000 to over 200,000

    Where to look for one?

I would also consider a 300 if very nice :)

    Where to look for one?

Thanks, but I hate busy cities so avoid like the plague ;) To get a van though it would need to be almost exactly what I want with all the extras already on or too good a price to ignore as county would be a lot easier to get to how I want with less expense

    Where to look for one?

I would prefer a full window county one but would consider a "van" if price allows me to convert it.

    Where to look for one?

£8000 ideally but for right one a can push a little but it would have to be really right for me. From my research I believe I should be able to find one around year 2000-2004 depending on miles.

    Where to look for one?

can anyone suggest where I should be looking for a defender? eBay is full of scams! Seems one in five is a con :( I've also tried gumtree and auto trader. I'm sure if patient I will find one but just wondering if I've missed any other places to look? Thanks in advance for any replies :)
