Freelander 1 High Pressure Fuel Pump 0281002480 ……. Refurbished in 8 hours

From this… To this… In only eight working hours. Down to the bare metal with rotary brushes on the end of a drill – carefully. Stripped down, one portion at a time. All seals replaced, with all the originals looking okay. All screws replaced with Allen Heads. I bought the 2nd hand...

Inlet Air Temp resistance readings please?

Might anyone have the resistance readings for the FL1 Td4 2004, Inlet Air Temperature Sensor, across the range? I have two sensors, one in use and the other as a spare. When both are together for a lengthy period, rendering each to an ambient temp, there is a marked difference. One is 7.25...

    Freelander 1, Td4, Important Water/Sediment Filter information.

Diddypud, Hi. It's not the big washer that was to blame, it was the three rubber seals for each inserted pipe that was faulty. Everything was time-ex and knackered. The seals had obviously succumbed to the effects of diesel, rendering them ineffective to the point of allowing air into the...

    Freelander 1, Td4, Important Water/Sediment Filter information.

Hi. I never fully answered Andy's question concerning the drain plug. However, I wish to add, the last time I undid that plug it broke. The plastic had become hard and brittle, much like the grey plastic above. All-in-all, I consider that trap to be time limited and mine had expired.

    Freelander 1, Td4, Important Water/Sediment Filter information.

Yes, Andy. The complete Filter assembly has been removed and will be replaced with the in-line filter, on receipt, as seen using the provided Link. Oil (Diesel) floats on water so any moisture should accumulate at the filter's lowest point. If the replacement In-Line filter is mounted in such a...

    Freelander 1, Td4, Important Water/Sediment Filter information.

I inspected the Sediment/Water filter on my Td4 and discovered the two connectors, situated on the top cover, were loose enough to rotate easily with lots of play. More than enough to suggest air could be easily drawn in when the Low-Pressure Pump was running. I dismantled the filter assembly...

Freelander 1 Td4's High-Press pump with escaping air noise?

No. I've written it off as a useless piece of junk, which is exactly what it is. I have confidence in most bits of kit, but the lump of air-leaking plastic I have just discarded has no meaning or use whatsoever to me or my car.

Freelander 1 Td4's High-Press pump with escaping air noise?

I both understand and agree with what you say. However, it's always good to have a filter... of sorts. And, I have just ordered the following, Universal Diesel Inline Fuel Filter LARGE Car Part Fit 8 mm Pipes On Angle...

Freelander 1 Td4's High-Press pump with escaping air noise?

Further to my question about air noise, I inspected the water/sediment trap this morning, paying particular attention to the possibility it might be allowing air to enter the system. It was. Both connections rotated easily with lots of play. I removed the unit from the car and dismantled it...

Freelander 1 Td4 High Press Fuel Pump info needed.

I've added a picture of a High Pressure Fuel Pump, as fitted to an M47 engine. There are three fuel outlets, 1, 2 & 3 annotated on the picture. Might anyone know what each of the pipes are responsible for?

Freelander 1 Td4's High-Press pump with escaping air noise?

Thanks Nodge. That's exactly what I'm getting. Problem, or what I thought was, solved. I'll still refurbish the pump and keep it in reserve, along with a host of other parts. When I travel I carry a full tool kit and spares pack-up. Thanks again.

Freelander 1 Td4's High-Press pump with escaping air noise?

Thanks, Paul. I'm considering everything & anything that might cause this strange occurence. And although it doesn't affect the running & performance, I've just bought a 2nd hand High-Press pump (from Latvia) and a seal kit to suit. I will refurbish this pump and replace the existing one. My...

Freelander 1 Td4's High-Press pump with escaping air noise?

Hi Andy, and thanks for that reply. There isn't actually a sloshing noise, or any kind of noise associated with liquid in motion. It's the sound of air pressure being released. Now, I've just finished investigating the noise and its source. Having removed both air-inlet covers for access, I...

Freelander 1 Td4's High-Press pump with escaping air noise?

Thanks, Arctic. I tend to sleep on problems, such as this, so your answer helps. Zzzzzz I woke this morning and went straight into my garage, having taken on board what you suggest. I wrote a report, which follows as a reply.

Freelander 1 Td4's High-Press pump with escaping air noise?

When I switch on my FL1’s ignition the low pressure fuel pump (located in the rear R/H wheel arch) operates. It’s a new pump, as is the filter and it all sounds good. However, as it pumps, there is the sound of escaping air in the region of the High-Pressure Pump under the bonnet. The air sound...

My TD4 starts bad when it gets hot - and what fixed it.

SUCCESS!!! Having replaced all kinds of sensor, checked the wiring, tested this-and-that and taken on-board advice from many, the problem of starting (which was very bad – especially when hot) was my STARTER MOTOR's solenoid’s contacts. See the photos. The contacts were twisted and...
