    loud knocking at 50-60mph

Had a similar problem with 300 disco many years ago, could not see anything wrong underneath, only appeared at above 50mph, no vibration through steering wheel, just clunking noise, diagnosed when front wheels jacked up, front wheel bearing completely knackered, wheel only held on by large...

    Disco 2 Electrical issues

If it is the bcu at fault, it doesn't log it internal faults so diagnostic tools cannot tell you it is at fault. It is only when you have tested everything else, or you start to get other random faults related to bcu controlled systems eg hazard warning lights turning on for no apparent reason...

I need some help please....stuck on holiday

I will relate my tale of woe and you can make your own mind up wether it relates to your situation. Intermittent fault which caused m+s lights to flash, limp mode and disappearance of gear position light by selector and digital display by odometer, usually occurring after driving 20 miles in...

I need some help please....stuck on holiday

I think from your description that what is happening is that when you accelerate the power supply from the bcu via the xyz switch to the bcu and eat ecu is being interrupted, initially this causes the m+s lights to flash and the d display and d light to disappear and when you slow down the power...

I need some help please....stuck on holiday

What happens to the prnd321 display when the fault occurs and also what happens to the red lights by the gear selector, do they flash or disappear.

Hi, I’m new...... but got the s & m lights up

Would suggest you post in discovery forum to get a better response. However, a few things to bear in mind and check first before you touch the xyz switch. The P and N create an EARTH path through the xyz switch and NOT a positive feed and a failure of this earth path will stop the ignition...

    SORN

You illustrate my point, he may insure vehicle for one day but unless he also taxes it and it has a current mot the insurance is invalidated for road use. To remain legal, he also has to declare a SORN at the end of his 24 hour insurance which automatically cancels his road tax. So his cost...

    SORN

Thanks for your replies. I don't mind paying the £27 a month for road tax, which i have been, thinking i was obviating the need to declare a SORN when I could arrange insurance on a daily basis as and when i need it through my existing insurance. What I object to is having to insure the vehicle...

    SORN

Discovered today it is a legal requirement that a uk registered car must be insured and registered on MID unless a SORN declaration is made, so no road tax. My problem is that I kept my old disco 2 when i replaced it just before Christmas thinking that i would clean it up and sell it April...

Disco 2 M & Lights flashing when engine is cold

You could try down loading the workshop manual, electrical Library and diagrams from the link by sierrafery as pdf files as these contain detailed descriptions of the automatic transmission body control unit and electronic automatic transmission ecu. If you haven't already you need the fault...

    TD5 Gearbox fault.

Bcu is the body control ecu located behind the front passenger glove box and controls among other systems, indicators, hazard lights Windows, doors and the vehicle security . Eat, electronic automatic transmission ecu is located under front passenger seat. Bcu is not plug and play, needs to be...

    TD5 Gearbox fault.

I would first check that the xyz switch is actually receiving a positive feed from the bcu which is the source of power to the wxyz circuits which provide the gear position signals to the bcu ecu and eat ecu which in turn control the lights by the gear selector and display in the instrument...

Disco 2 M & Lights flashing when engine is cold

From your answers I do not think your battery is causing the fault. When the ignition is turned to position 2 the electronic automatic transmission ecu ( eat ecu) receives this information and simultaneously reads the voltage signal received from the xyz switch nominally 12 volts. The eat ecu...

Disco 2 M & Lights flashing when engine is cold

Just to clarify your fault 1) on first starting your car when cold, you can start it in p or n and the m&s lights only start flashing once you select d and drive away when you experience a jolt and the car goes into limp mode. 2) if you turn the car off before the engine has achieved normal...
