I was too lazy to run downstairs to get the name for the machine...but can now tell you it is a Lynx Diagnostic Interface and my LR is a TD5. I loaded the diagnostic machine on my partners laptop and run it on my TD5 yesterday for the first time.

There is lots of really great advice here, and it may take you off in lots of different directions, so read it all because there is lots of good stuff there but follow your gut feeling...it may not be the worse case scenario and cost. Good luck.
