    replacement engine options

The auto and manual tensioners/belts are interchangeable, if you use the correct kits, and a few extra bits and pieces. Your 02 will be the MEMS3 system, and so the MG engine will drop straight in, using the alloy manifold and 135 cams for a little increase in power, at the expense of bottom...

    Difference between mems 1.9 & mems 3 FL1???

I used the 1.8t loom, and chopped off the (Hall Effect) crank sensor wiring, and wired it with the Freelander (Inductive) sensor and wiring

    Td4 intake manifold path

Because the engine was designed to fit in a car. LR/BMW lifted the engine and dropped it straight into the FL...

    Td4 intake manifold path

And there is not 1 exhaust valve and 1 inlet valve on each side of the head... They are both together

    Td4 intake manifold path

Nothing to do with the intake valves... It was designed to run in a BMW car, with swirl flaps, to alter the intake lengths, for lower end torque, and high end power. In the Freelander, the engineers wanted low end torque for off roading and towing, and so the system was not utilised.

    Difference between mems 1.9 & mems 3 FL1???

In addition to the above, the Rover CANBUS is not compatible with the LR CAN data It wasn't easy working it all out ;)

    Difference between mems 1.9 & mems 3 FL1???

The standard ECU will not accept a positive boost pressure The engine loom is also different, in a number of ways, as is the body loom, integrated into the 1.8T loom Both have their headaches, and I'm still sorting my way through mine. Biggest one being the cooling fans running when they want...

    Difference between mems 1.9 & mems 3 FL1???

It's not a plug and play swap. The later MEMS uses CANBUS, as opposed to being hard wired into the ECU's It could be done as a retrofit, but it's really not worth the extra hassle EDIT: Re-read your post. The MEMS3 is needed for the swap

    1.8/L clutch supplier recommendations?

I put in an HD AP Lockheed clutch kit into the turbo. Good enough for 200bhp/200lb ft :)

DD and I are going to have a stab at a Toyota engine Hippo. Any inupt would be cool.

I can assure you, the 1.8 will hit more than 108mph. It will do almost that in 4th gear EDIT: My 1.8, to avoid any confusion

DD and I are going to have a stab at a Toyota engine Hippo. Any inupt would be cool.

With the 1.8 turbo, at 70mph, it's still spinning at 3000rpm. It could easily cope with longer ratios(at the expense of acceleration), or a 6th gear.

    Freelander 1.8 Turbo

Well, it appears one of the LR magazines would like to do a feature on this car :D Watch this space

FL1: motor, modifications, conversion & engine swaps [K series 1.8]

I suspect that if the engine had been designed from the outset to have forced induction AND VVC together, it would work quite well. However, making them work together will be another challenge. That said, how big would the gains be? The Turbo has more power across the whole rev range, as...

    Freelander 1.8 Turbo

That was why I went ahead with it. Bolted straight onto the engine mounts and bellhousing :) Got £50 back for the Rover, as it was missing an engine. Better than nothing!

    Freelander 1.8 Turbo

I paid £600 for a 52 plate 1.8 with head gasket issues. Little more than I would have liked to pay, but it was still taxed and MOTD, new VCU, 2 new tyres, and a decent spec. Drove it up the road Paid £600 for the 75 Turbo, with clutch issues. Taxed and MOTd again. Drove it up the road. ECU...
