200tdi - Who is OEM supplier of cam belt tensioner

Hi all It is time to change the cam belt & tensioner on my 200TDI. On ringing around I am offered various unpalatable Chinese/Britpart options... Can you tell me who is the OEM manufacturer of the tensioner, or at least a reputable make? Also is Dayco the OEM/reputable belt manufacturer...

    I bought some new calipers...

Hi all I thought this would be a good time for an update on the 'caliper issues'. I corresponded back and forth with DVSA's Vehicle Safety Branch (VSB) for a while - they didn't generally respond until prompted. The last response from VSB on 19 November last year was as follows: "Hope you are...

    Another Caliper Question...

Hi all Last year I bought some pretty dreadful calipers for my 200TDI which I wanted to upgrade to vented discs - and still do. The existing non-vented calipers were rebuilt by me a few years ago and are fine. I thought I might either use the spacers from the replacement calipers or make new...

    Caliper seal part Number?

Thank you for your kind replies. I have ordered the seals. I bought some cheap calipers last year which were pretty awful - I made a post at the time - here. I will make another post about the seals in the cheap calipers because I am interested in how the gallery seals were originally made. I...

    Caliper seal part Number?

Hi all Does anyone have the part number for the gallery seals on early ish vented calipers? The calipers are part No's SEB 500 460 & SEB 500 470. These are the small seals that go between the caliper halves and the spacers - not the piston seals. Many thanks Paul

    I bought some new calipers...

Another update... In March I took the calipers to the local Trading Standards office. Trading Standards (TS) eventually sent the parts to an 'expert' who proclaimed that they were just fine... I asked to see his report but TS refused. My MP feels the matter is outside her purview. I contacted...

The Old Coachroad - East Sussex

I have just received the following email from ROW: Dear Mr xxxxx We dropped these bollards when the seasonal winter closure ended around the 10th / 11th May, so they shouldn’t have been locked when you saw them this week. I wonder whether you actually noticed that they were locked because if...

The Old Coachroad - East Sussex

I am always polite to little people in high places... It is their dealings with respectful people like me who jolly well know their place that makes their lives worth living - almost.

The Old Coachroad - East Sussex

I emailed council this morning with pictures. No changes listed on definitive map: https://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/leisureandtourism/countryside/rightsofway/map/map.aspx East Sussex County Council. GLASS rep was generally unavailable. Problems with phone/email/life. Away every weekend in Midlands...

The Old Coachroad - East Sussex

The Old Coachroad is a lane in East Sussex which links the villages of Firle and Alfriston. About 18 months ago the council imposed an unnecessary TRO closing it from end of September to the end of March. The lane is semi surfaced and is mainly used by agricultural and estate traffic. At the...

    I bought some new calipers...

A brief update. Last week I passed the calipers on to Trading Standards who have taken an interest. I will post another update when I know more. If anyone else has had a bad experience with safety critical parts please get in touch.

    I bought some new calipers...

Thank you all for your input on this. What depresses me is that no-one is surprised. As far as genuine/OEM parts are concerned my experience is that 'genuine' (in a Land Rover box) is often the way to go but equally often just so ridiculously expensive as to be untenable. I view 'OEM' as a much...

    I bought some new calipers...

I purchased some new calipers in order to upgrade my 200 TID Defender to later vented brakes. I got Mintex discs and eventually Allmakes 4X4 calipers. The first set sent were Britpart. I had already told the supplier that I don't buy Britpart so they went back and the Allmakes 4X4 sent out. They...
