The performance head doesn't alter the camshaft, so provided a powerplus camshaft is sensible I can't see how it would hurt. This is only so much point in trying to make a slow car fast, however.

Performance head from Turner or ACR if they do them; also get the benefit of unleaded value seats and new valve stem seals.

I think what you say is correct for some engines but not the 2.25 petrol / diesel engines. My V5 and block show 9 digits being 8 numbers then one letter, which tallies with what glencoyne say in their link previously referred to.:)

I'm trying to read the searial number off my block for insurance purposes, I know where it is and how many digits it should be from Glencoyne's very helpful website http://www.glencoyne.co.uk/engno.htm; what I dont know is whether the final digit is meant to be a letter or a number, mines not...

Isn't the idea the plastic slides around the steel tube, which is clamped tight between the shackles?

The battery is old but passed a proper battery check not so long ago. I could get that checked again I suppose? I know a tow start would fire him up ok. I should have dried jumping him earlier when I was there. What a numpty.

Well said @suburban ... the journey continues... Over the last few fire ups, the starter motor has been getting slower and he's harder to start. Jumping in to get him going today and I get the dreaded "click". So, I've checked the battery as best I can single handed; it was given the all clear...

Hi @Blackburn sorry I didn't see your reply! Thanks disappointing. Looks like it might just have to wait for a full gearbox rebuild. Think I might treat him to a high ratio conversation too (budget depending!)

I fixed the wires up too, only the brake and side lights, so the side lights were brighter than the brakes. I've ordered my Lucas smoke kit but haven't fitted it yet! :D
