freelander td4 master clutch cylinder problems

It needs bleeding. And if that doesnt work, it probably needs a new slave cylinder. Which means taking the gearbox out.

    The water escaped.

Yeah, I was losing about half a header tank every two or three days and doing so for a few weeks. I was initially worried about the HG, but no sign of fluids mixing, but no sign of the water leaking externally. Knowing now where its come from I guess the small amount leaked out while driving...

    The water escaped.

Oh, forgot to say that the two hoses join by "quick release" fittings. Literally impossible to get them apart. You have to remove a wire clip then in theory they just pull apart but they were jammed solid - no way would you get them off in situ. I ended up undoing the other end of each hose and...

    The water escaped.

Hadnt driven the Freelander for a couple of weeks. I took it to work and it thanked me by sharting coolant all over my employers 17th century granite paved courtyard. Brilliant. Turns out to be leaking from a plastic pipe fitting on the front of the cylinder head. At home with the inlet...

looking for a lift kit can anyone help??

^^^^ Thats what I initially thought - its only metal, they are easy enough to fabricate. But the amount of ****ing about, cutting, welding etc.....to say nothing of having to remove the shocks beforehand to find the correct sizes and bolt placement.... Life is too short so I just paid up for a...

glow plug sheered in head, advice on my plans

looking for a lift kit can anyone help??

I have an unused SES88 kit plus camber bolts here that I am never likely to fit. Make me a reasonable offer. Bear in Mind I am in France so postage will be a little higher.

What have you done to your Freelander today

I did that - I extracted the chip from my one original key and glued it to the barrel and got ebay replacement key blanks cut to the right profile. I now have spare keys (although no spare fob, but not too fussed) and it cost a fraction of getting it done "properly". As for insurance, I have...

    Convert a Freelander Adventurer to a Pick-Up?

Yes, just boarding the rear means no legal issues with BIVA (will technically need to tell DVLA of revised number of seats though which I doubt would go smoothly) but leaves the problem of it looking pish. Frankly, they look dumb as hell with the roof off - very badly proportioned, and...

    Convert a Freelander Adventurer to a Pick-Up?

Cutting the bodyshell means the finished vehicle will require a BIVA test (used to be SVA) Disco/rangies dont need to go through this as they have a separate chassis so body swaps or modifications are allowed but the Freelander is a monocoque so any cutting of the shell is classed as...

    Freelander 1 td4 intrument cluster

I swapped mine out for a second hand one - no programming, no messing, just unplugged the old one and slammed in the replacement. Get one from a car with the same engine and similar age. There are a couple of different clock face styles so make sure its the same. The new clocks display...

Freelander 1 [SOLVED] Complete Rover 75CDTI on my drive - anyone any ideas for ripping the lump out of it quickly

Use an axe to hack the front end off. Hack out the bumper, rad, slam panel and lower crossmember. The axe needs to be sharp and heavy. Use a grinder and cut through the driveshafts. Careful, they can nip the disc and shatter it. Snip, hack or saw through loom, pipes, trim and ony other...

    Manual vcu conversion

The whole point of the VCU is that there is no real drive to the rear anyway under normal use and its when the front wheels slip faster than the rears that it tightens up, driving the rears as needed. It does this pretty much instantly with no intervention needed from the driver. The entire...

    Manual vcu conversion

This again? There isnt a dog box out there for reasonable money that will allow on the move shifting, so on a snowy road you will have to stop, engage 4wd, drive it.....uh oh a clear section, cant wind up the transmission and blow the IRD so disengage back to 2wd.......oh, more snow, need to...

Freelander 1 Moving the car without drive shafts installed

Its enough of a ball-ache to get a gearbox to re-engage the splines into the clutch as you refit it on its own......the added hassle of also trying to line up and re-engage the splines of the IRD must be a nightmare....I dont see the point in making things difficult for the sake of not removing...

Dave reconditions his propshaft - many photos.

No. My damper outer ring came loose about six months ago and I cut it off back then. I just removed the inner part today. It makes sod-all difference. Some VCUs are sold without a damper at all and the fluid inside it will dynamically balance the VCU if there were any imbalance issues anyway.

Dave reconditions his propshaft - many photos.

The source of the clanking was this worn spider joint. It had about 5mm side to side movement in one direction You can see the clean bit where the end cap has been sliding back and forth. Britpart and Allmakes - yeah yeah yeah, might as well throw my money straight in the bin etc etc, but...

Dave reconditions his propshaft - many photos.

At the start of the year I bogged the Freelander literally right up to the floorpan in a freshly ploughed field. To my surprise I managed to drive it out (eventually) but the entire underside was thoroughly clagged with sticky mud. Everythign else escaped injury but the VCU bearings didnt...

Freelander 1 Measuring yer wheel fred

The actual numbers arent important, The percentage difference between front and rear is what he is aiming for, I think. So if he can get a large enough sample size to iron out any outlying data from folk running weird / wrong tyre setups he should end up with a reliable average figure for cars...
