P38A Lift pump? relay? solenoid? Help!

Evenin' all, Advice needed please... 2.5 DT I suspected that the lift pump had given up the ghost. It was a bit difficult to start after sitting for a week (which is rare). Seemed to be all the symptoms. I changed the relay, disconnected the pipe at the outlet side of filter and tried it. Fuel...

P38 2.5td. Air flow sensor sourcing

Could this be the EGR, not the MAF? That is - the EGR not cutting in due to MAF sensor not 'telling it' to? There have been quite a few posts on here about EGRs and whether they are any use. I have disconnected and blanked off the wee vacuum pipe to stop dirtying up the air intake, and many...

    P38A Axle Oil Seals

With the front hub there is a need to properly align it (I think thats what the tool is for). Have a search for threads about balljoint replacement, there's info there...

    P38A Axle Oil Seals

Just noticed your comment about the LR tool - so guess this may be the front one you're talking about. I think the same may apply - check the bearing

    P38A Axle Oil Seals

Is this is the rear axle? I had what I thought was a leaking oil seal, replaced it and it continued to leak. Turned out to be the hub bearing was away - causing movement that was too much for the oil seal. You should be able to feel any wear in the hub bearing. Good luck

Thanks Grrrrrr, but I think his is a 4.0 HSE But I'm looking into it. Rumour is there's someone in Jedburgh with one for a 2.5 DT, don't think he's on here or a pal has a snap-on diag - I'll see if that's any use

Thanks chaps. Although I don't consider myself 'mechanically inept', I'm not going to tackle this! Appreciate the help tho', and it seems its another good reason for getting a Nanocom... Maybe just a little lighter hoof might help;)

All bog standard. Done 180k... Still sounds quite sweet. Bit derv rattly on startup, purrs when its warmed up. Chains? Timing chain is that? Anything to be concerned about?

    P38A Dirty Devil

My 2.5DT starts easily, hot or cold. It goes well and acceleration is fine.:)(smug bastard) Tho' I suspect that it is not quite as good as it could be... Where I regularly start up there is a sooty patch on the drive. More noticeably smoky if I start it quite soon after turning it off. Also wee...

Duh! Sometimes 'one feels such a fool'. I tried it again today. Works fine. I just hadn't used it properly before, having misinterpreted the owners handbook. The diesel doesn't have the decellerate function on the right hand button like petrol models do, but it does resume (as Wammers...

sorry for no reply - I assumed the wise ones would be on the case. Is it not on the inside of the fuse box lid? Also on the fuse itself? What colour is it? Or am I missing the point?

Yeah, I know 'poverty model'! Mine seems to be quite well equipped tho' - its 2000. Don't know how true it is about 'end of the range' having extras being added to get them sold ... (but the 'res' button still doesn't do anything :()
