    Don't know why its so bad. It maybe coming from the inside I think, I've always cleaned it and waxoiled it for winter. They do chuck the salt on thick round here (usually the day after a hard frost!) The towbar is rusty too and I'm reluctant to chip any more off it so it keeps coming back...

    I mentioned this before but it got a bit lost. Thought I'd better start another fred. Got the MOT, but also got an advisory of 'extensive corrosion to the rear of the chassis'. He's a good guy who I take the rover to when I have to and he reckons it can be welded using plates (obvs cut to shape)...

    See your otherwise immaculate engine? Like mine slightly let down by the leak around the oil filler cap. I've tried bending the springy bit to make it a tighter seal but no good. Haven't resorted to a fibre washer (yet) 'cos I think that putting one in there would eventually make it a looser fit...

    How many miles do you do? 3 years at 10k , 30k, I would change the filter and fluid and put some more lucas in anyway... If its still sticky after that, drain some out and put some more lucas in after six months. It'll free it up if it is sticky valves. (Well it did mine!)

    I think its the wee magnet on the bottom cover which tells you the most. If its 'furry' then that's a worry.:eek: ,if its just a bit grey then there's not too much ground up metal being made!;) On the final fill up I would put some Lucas Transmission Fix in too. good stuff. I swear it made mine...

    Is the leak actually from that union? Mine is leaking around the crimped pipe in the engine bay so I've wondered if it was possible to just change that end of the pipe without having to do the gearbox end (which I took one look at and knew it was beyond me to do). I haven't measured it yet but...
