    4.0 litre petrol p38 went out to the beastie and took off the camshaft and got some mole grips and span the inlet and exhaust valves round put it all together and it seemed to have worked havent had it out yet but tick over it seems to have stopped backfiring woohoo. Came to fit the rocker...

    Starts at when it starts to get warm from start up and then gets worse had rocker cover off and all seems to be working as it should if I can't sort this by tomorrow it will become a v7 I will disconnect the injector and run it as usual gone past caring now.

    So after all your help which was gratefully received I changed now spark plug and it seems to have cured my problem and if it reoccurs I will just turn the radio up! While you are rea ding this is the bonnet release cable adjustable or is it replace? Thanks again for all your input.

    Manifolds came off on Saturday put back on Sunday inspected bores and no signs of wear or pitting unburnt fuel is feasible did seem to be running slightly rich.how does one change the mixture without cars?
