    130 tub width.

Perfect! thanks for that. They don't stick out as much as I seemed to have in my head. I had in my head it was 3 inches or so and getting a mad notion of building the front of the Defender wider to suit during the rebuild like Tonks is doing with his camper:p Probably just looks more to...

    130 tub width.

Anybody know the overall width of a 130 tub? What I want to know really is how much the tub extends beyond the cab at either sides.

Older galvanised or newer standard chassis... Decisions..

Engine wise, the TD5 wins hands down for me but a V8, especially a potential LS swap would be better again and your much better off with a galvanised chassis. Engines and mechanicals are easily changed for what you want

    Td5 sometimes has no power

Both my Defenders and my dad's Disco do this when started. For about 10-15 seconds, it has no power and the suddenly jumps to life as if you flicked a switch.

    New Landy

Picked this up the other day as a little stop-gap until I get my 110 rebuilt. Ex-ESB (our electricity board) TD5 110, hence the yellow paint. Few bits and pieces needed to tidy it up and then I'll throw on a few old bits I have off the crew-cab as most stuff on that will be got new anyway...

    Clutch Pedal

the assistance spring upgrade makes a huge difference. I jumped into my new 110 to keep me going while I rebuild my other one and no matter how many times I drive a standard Defender, the weight of the clutch is always a shock to the system for a couple of gear changes after driving my other one...

    registering a rebuild as a '15 plate

It'll be classic eventually as I'll have no intentions of selling it and probably drive it until I can't jump into it anymore :p Yea, most of the Irish insurance companies won't insure a car fully comp over 10 years old now and will refuse to insure a car 15 or 20 years old unless on a...

    TDV8 swap

yep, 3.2 has been done loads of times. It's an option and obviously be a good bit cheaper but I'll try stick with the V8 idea first :)

    TDV8 swap

I get the odd copy that's interesting enough to spend more than two minutes looking through in the shop. I got a pic in LRO alright though :D Bell autoservices TDV6 challenge truck was in a mag alright and was a very well done job but I haven't heard anything on anybody finishing a V8 yet...

    registering a rebuild as a '15 plate

Because a decent crew-cab chassis with logbook are making around 700 euro anyway and that still needs to be galvanized and possibly repaired in some parts too. A brand new chassis might not work out much dearer in the long run and just get it registered. It won't be ever for sale so not...

    TDV8 swap

Best option is a new ECU. The original can be flashed but it'll just be a nightmare to live with afterwards if you ever need to look for faults with diagnostics as there'll be so many "faults" that'll show up because of all the stuff you've tricked it out of looking for to the point, it'll be...

    TDV8 swap

Have got a solution to the ECU now anyway so that's a big bit out of the way :) Just have to find a reasonably priced 3.6 or 4.4 now :D

    registering a rebuild as a '15 plate

yea, our tax system can be very expensive for a private vehicle. i.e, one that has more than 3 seats. upto 2000 euro per year. My E46 M3 is 1820 euro a year :( For commercials though, it's 330 a year and this applies to crew-cabs too Why would I want to build a ****box??? We don't have...

    registering a rebuild as a '15 plate

well, the deal is... we can't register a new car over here in Ireland regardless so whatever date it says on the VLC that's tied to the chassis as first registered, that's the year the vehicle will be stated as first registered on the new Irish reg plate. I'm guessing even with a Q-plate that...

    registering a rebuild as a '15 plate

Just thinking out loud here but what would it entail to register a full chassis rebuild Defender as a new vehicle or is it possible at all? Just that I need a chassis and logbook for a rebuild but don't want to get a really old one so looking into starting from complete scratch. Also would...

    TDV8 swap

I think the ECU, map on it and loom to plug and play is just shy of £3000 from Simtek! :o

    TDV8 swap

not loud or brash? That rules out mine so then as it'll still look like this when rebuilt only maybe a few less dents an scratches :D I think the manual Disco TDV6 6 speed will work fairly ok and mate to the LT230 transfer so that'll rule out electronics for the box although TDV8 auto would...
