I had similar issues, turned out I had a sluggish pump and injector seals gone. Swapped pump and the injector seal issue showed up straight away, wasn't as obvious until I changed the pump.

You can go either route. Standard length shocks or extended. But if you go any further than 2" lift, you'll need extended shocks. (personally I went for the extended shocks) and yes, medium load springs are a good idea, heavy are WAY to stiff.

When you connected the jump leads on your car, you didn't loosen the terminals slightly without noticing did you? Seen that happen a few times where people haven't pushed the clamp down and tightened them correctly, works for ages until they're disturbed.

And yes, suspension does need to settle and work a little before they sit correctly.
