Cannot get front door glass to fit in doors

Wise words Obi-wan (the force is strong with this one). Do you need two guesses as to what I did?...probably not. Well, I guess if I make a multitude of cock-up’s on the first door then the second will be plain sailing. Aah, I can see it now, calm seas ahead, sunny blue skies, just a whisper of...

Cannot get front door glass to fit in doors

Day 1,305 in the Land Rover house...and Karls wants to know who’s idea it was to rebuild a 90, find them and shoot them. Update on fitting the glass. I pulled the latch side felt runner out, stripped off the metal shim then slid the glass in and fitted said felt runner in from the top down. I...

Cannot get front door glass to fit in doors

I did but one of them is now laying on the floor in a tangled heap...my patience was tested and the test was failed. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!

Cannot get front door glass to fit in doors

Thanks for the above. It's not the thickness of glass that is the issue. It's just too tight on the width, even when putting the glass in at an angle and trying to straighten it. I did remove one of the felt runners but once the glass was in, I couldn't get it back in past the (angled) plastic...

Cannot get front door glass to fit in doors

I touched on this in another thread but thought it best to make it a separate. 1985 90 Truck Cab. New doors from SP4x4 New plastic trim and felt runners in place. New glass but try as I might, it’s just too tight to get in. I have followed the manual where it shows it going in at an angle but...

Front door window channels - screw locations

Thanks for the above. I havent’t got the mech’ on the door as yet. I’ve just dry fitted the felt channels to see what sort of a fit the glass would be but I can’t get the darned glass into the channels and up through the door. I’ll try again tomorrow when I’m less tired...oh the joy of it

Front door window channels - screw locations

OK, so how the hell do you get the glass in place? What’s the secret?

Front door window channels - screw locations

Yeah, my channel is new and feels good and strong. I think I read in your build thread that you didn't use the shims? I'll try some trial fits of the glass & channel to see if I can do without.

Front door window channels - screw locations

Thanks for your reply; in that case I’m tempted to do the same. I’ll give it a try tomorrow.

Front door window channels - screw locations

Quick question: did you also bond the longest glass U-channel to the inside of the bottom bracket?

Front door window channels - screw locations

You know that thought crossed my mind! Mainly because I didn't feel great about drilling holes into doors that are open to the elements and like to corrode at the first opportunity. You sir are a star! I was going to use Sikaflex...what did you use?

Front door window channels - screw locations

I’m building up the front doors at the moment, bit the bullet and went for replacements from SP4x4 but will rebuild the old ones and sell them on at a later date. I’m just wondering about the screws that are used to retain everything to the door frame. How many are you supposed to use (my Land...

Well that’s what I assumed as well!

    The none rebuild, rebuild thread.

My tub fitted well, I was amazed at that. It sounds like something on yours must have moved as the new cross member is some chunky piece of metal. Hopefully Land Rover build tolerances will mean you’re still ok. I didn’t create a thread as I knew I just couldn’t dedicate the time to it. I have...

    The none rebuild, rebuild thread.

Thanks Mick. It is Raptor; I initially got it to spray the inside of the rear tub but then tried it on a panel and thought it looked pretty cool so that was that. I might be way ahead of you but it has taken most of my spare time to get it there. I must admit I’m looking forward to life after...

    The none rebuild, rebuild thread.

This is the current state of affairs after 4 years: A lot of blood, sweat and cussing...and money! I think I'm within the last 12 months...I like to think so anyway!

    The none rebuild, rebuild thread.

Good to see you back Mick. I know exactly what it’s like...the highs and lows of rebuilding a Land Rover...much like my bank account! It can seem like one step forward, two back at times. For me this has been my own personal Everest. I’m still battling with mine but I know once it’s done it’s...

Removing handles from lift-up door latches

That's a great idea! Did you find the heat shrink shrunk down enough for the small end of the handle?

Removing handles from lift-up door latches

Has anyone ever managed to achieve this? The handle of the latch assy was originally plastic coated but this was all peeling off so I removed as much as I could. Now I want to get them re-coated but I can't get the handle off the latch/lock assy. It's on splines but it looks like the outer dia...

Door quandary - what's your views?

Yes I want to get the door handles off to clean them up and respray. Also they're a bit of a slack fit when in place so if I can line them with a ptfe bush or similar to tighten them up that would be good. As you say, it looks like I may have to open up the assembly to get them out.
