Disco 4 (LR4) Oil Pump Cover

Concerned !!. I am all ready to go for the (front) auxiliary & timing belt change, have all the replacement parts plus "special" tools; fan & timing kit. Had a spanner thrown in the works this afternoon, " a bolt" that can knacker the oil pump. Having a good look around I came across a great...

Disco 4 (LR4) Changing Timing Belt but what else.

One thing I was thinking about, While doing the front belt & the camshaft pins plus the flywheel are locked in the timing position; could that mean the HPFP should by default also be in the timed position so allowing the belt change to go ahead, given that the camshafts are linked by the chain...

Disco 4 (LR4) Changing Timing Belt but what else.

I never thought about the helmet, but ditto started in 77 & retired in 2014, happy days (most of em)

Disco 4 (LR4) Changing Timing Belt but what else.

Thanks very much for the images Frostythor, its one of those things if good access is available, its straight forward. The D4 is timed so I'm assuming (hate that word) there are similar timing holes & locking pins on the camshaft pulley, is it wise to do while the flywheel is locked or is it a...

Disco 4 (LR4) Changing Timing Belt but what else.

Thanks for that, initially I was thinking that would be the sure way to guarantee peace of mind. But looking at the fuel belt location ..............how the hell can that be worked on, surely it is "hidden" and you must be working blind ???

Disco 4 (LR4) Changing Timing Belt but what else.

Hi, I'm planning on replacing the belts on my D4 3.0L sdv6, it is 7yrs old but has done nothing like the 112,000 miles; 68,623 at last MOT Feb 21. It is well maintained / serviced, always runs on Shell V Power. I have researched a fair bit on the job, articles & video. I was thinking of...

    D4 Cam Belt Replacement

gstuart, That is exactly what I have and have tried a couple of times to detach the removable "Arch" section to no avail. I'm sure they should disengage but I'm buggered if they will. Tried pushing the protruding bit at the bottom & a thin tool in behind it, just nothing. Anybody go any idea...

    D4 Cam Belt Replacement

Yep, it appears the previous owner of the one in the video gave up and snapped them off , drilled holes and ty-wrapped it. They have to undo so undo they will. On with the shopping list. Thanks again for your help, this site is a goldmine of help to the "it can't be that hard people" Regards. Mick

    D4 Cam Belt Replacement

Thanks for the info, had been thinking that as I don't have the luxury of leaving it half done waiting for any parts. When you say "both belts" do you mean front & rear timing belts or front timing belt & auxiliary belt. I'll have to do more work on the shopping list then, but sure even...

    D4 Cam Belt Replacement

Interesting; It was on Powerful UK video that they were deciding to or not to, but did it for the benefit of filming it. Given the probable cost (had D3 belt changed around 5yrs ago) buying a belt, tensioner, and the tools, timing kit + fan spanners would be around £150 so a big saving and...

    D4 Cam Belt Replacement

Lynall. Did you remove the starter motor and lock the flywheel ?, I did read that it was not always deemed necessary & probably ignored....... Regards. Mick

    D4 Cam Belt Replacement

NPG. Apologies for the late reply, link worked well, all installed. I had no idea it is so comprehensive. I have written many work related procedures in a past life, but have to say this one is quite tricky, it seems to jump about a bit. Have managed to pin down the relevant sections now, so a...

    D4 Cam Belt Replacement

Hi All Been watching a D4 3.0 sdv6 cam belt replacement during which they occasionally refer to "The Manual" on a laptop. The manual looks very good, great diagrams and comprehensive text. Is it possible as a simple owner to obtain such a digital document ? Any help or advice greatly...

    Changing rear Discs & Pads

Nodge68, many thanks for spending time to reply to my query, all made completely clear. Saved and had a good read through Bodsey's last night, and as you say, it really is very straight forward and points you to potential pitfalls to avoid. Discs etc arriving today, so just need a good weather...

    Changing rear Discs & Pads

Hello Nodge68. Thanks for your great reply, I have seen excerpts from Bodsey a while ago so will have a look for it. Do you mean releasing the EPB shoes using the adjuster or actually releasing the EPB via the switch one the rear wheels are "airborne" and axle stands in place ?. Its only the...

    Changing rear Discs & Pads

Hi Kermit Me neither, but watching plenty of "how - to" video clips it seem's straight forward enough, spent years doing plenty of fiddly spanner work so not phased by the task. Never had the callipers off but with a good squirt of penetrant and the correct tools they should be ok. Am planning...

    Changing rear Discs & Pads

Good morning all. The rear discs on my 2013 Discovery 4 TDV6 3ltr are no longer looking they're best, plan is to replace the discs and fit new pad's (plus check & clean the parking brake). Have done a fair bit of towing a big twin axle caravan with it without the slightest braking problem. I...

    D4 Offside Wing Mirror

Thanks for replying, I suppose that could be the straight forward answer. It crossed my mind to try a thin string loop pulled into the joint between the fixed & moving section, might just act as a friction "disc" . Regards Mick

    D4 Offside Wing Mirror

Hi, does anybody know if there is anyway of increasing the folding resistance on a D 4 (2013) wing mirror. With towing mirrors attached, to often the offside one "folds back", I have to put a bungy chord from mirror to the air intake grill to avoid constantly lowering the window to push it back...

    Disco 4 (LR4) Towing Electrics (12s) Problem

We took the caravan away for Christmas & on arrival noticed "scorching" on the 12s car socket & the plug from the caravan. Looking at diagrams I believe pin No. 6 is the supply to the caravan fridge via a relay (read somewhere there might be 2 relays 1 in the car & 1 in the caravan) and pin No...
