    I think it may actually be 606551J, which is part of the steering box.

    It transpires that the washer and nut are from the steering column! Not sure how they snuck into the pile of engine parts! That just leaves the large circlip.

    Yes, but this circlip is far larger - only the engine/box bits were plated in gold zinc too.

    Very similar in a size but I haven't touched the alternator - just removed it from the engine and set it to one side - I even had a look at it today to make sure.

    That's what I meant - external. I recall removing a few things off the engine end of the box before I sent it to Ashcrofts.
