Hi everyone, having sold my P38 (2001) in November, after doing much work, and now watching it run , I am considering buying another...There seems to be more 4.6's available.. are these engines weaker/less reliable than the 4 litre.

Back again..update.. Pressure test reveals no probs with heads...but...both heads deformed..i.e. machining required 0015 and 0035...hopefully no probs with tolerances between valves and pistons.

Hi..more advice please... I received the head gasket set today...included are 16 joints ..where do they go...are they required for the thor engine?..the only place they may fit is in the cup of block around the top of the hydraulic tappet..if so do they sit there or does the valley gasket hold...
Hi again...advice followed..both heads off...took some shifting with a very long bar (1.5 metres long) ...original gaskets with ERR ref on them...I was amazed by the amount of debris that I found under the intake manifold..Is this normal ? i.e. been seen before.

Hi everyone the whistling range rover...perhaps problem solved..Right hand head gasket, but look what I found on removing intake manifold...it was quite a surprise.
This may be of help to other owners who encounter the same problem as outlined in my initial posts.

Hi everybody..thanks for the advice...Part of the right hand head gasket is protruding from between the head and block...will start dismantling tomorrow... have already ordered gasket set and stretch bolts....I live in Corsica... one mechanic says the engine is too complicated for him.... being...
Hi again...I have now replaced cats and manifold gaskets to discover that it is the right hand head gasket...No longer whistling but a very loud noise.
May I ask... can I replace just the offending head gasket, and also is it obligatory to have the head skimmed.

Hi thanks..the glass where tint is missing looks greenish...the car however was a special order...might have a go at removing it....side front windows are darker than front screen, rear side windows very dark like rear...

Hi everyone..the rear heated window is Land Rover Pilkington optikool...it has a very dark colour, almost black., small parts of which have flaked, and there are also some scratches.
Is this factory norm or can it be removed...it looks a bit unsightly at the moment.

Hi.. thanks again..I have recently loosened off the nuts from manifold to downpipe ( a little seized) and retightened (one by one) in preparation of fitting new cats as there were emission probs and I thought I could hear a rattle...perhaps I have disturbed something...the noise seems to be...
