Thinking of buying a Range Rover

Yes as I said I will not rush into buying & will wait till I find a good one at a fair price.

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

Yes I was hoping to be able to get a pretty good Thor engined one still on petrol for around £2k & one already converted to LPG for around £2.5k ? The ones I have seen so far needed pretty costly repairs & 2 of them were probably being sold because of that.

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

    All 3 were 4.6 petrol, 2000 or 2001 year.

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

That was my initial thoughts, that £2,000 would get a nice one but I have seen a £4k one that had several warnings come up on the dash whilst test driving it, a £1,750 one that the temp gauge went up & down on whilst driving & the top rad hose was rock hard & bulging, plus sagging...

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

My mechanical abilities are reasonably good, my pockets less so. What I was trying to get at was what are considered minor problems & what are considered problems that should make you walk away unless the vehicle is going for a song or you want a project. I am after something that is going to be...

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

So I am still looking :) I don"t know if I am being to picky or expecting to much from a vehicle that is going on for 20 years old but the ones I have been to see have either been overpriced in my opinion or had to much wrong with them. Maybe I am expecting to much for my budget, about £4,000...

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

My budget is not £10k now though as I have decided that I will keep my car at least for a few months after getting the P38 just in case it needs any work/faults ironed out & so that I know it is reliable before parting with my car. My budget is therefore up to about £4k max. I am not sure...

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

Assuming the vehicle does in fact drive ok, doesn"t have any warning lights/messages & is in good nick as stated, apart from the sagging headlining, is £1,750 a fair price with it having not been serviced for 2 years ?

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

Thanks for that gold rover. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good but reasonably priced independent should I wish to go down that route ? Having not been serviced for 2 years I assume that it will need a pretty thorough service even though during those 2 years it only did 6,500 miles...

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

My intention would be to maybe have a dealer service done initially, so I know everything is ok then do future services myself. This is what I have always done in the past unless the vehicle had been recently serviced by a dealer.

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

Well the extensive servicing wasn"t that extensive as it hasn"t been touched for the last 2 years. How much is a full service on these things ?

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

And convert to LPG :) I am waiting to get some more information off the private seller, service history, before arranging to go & see it.

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

Everything seemed to work OK & yes 2 keys. The dealer said that they had serviced it themselves & the fault codes were just down to "dicky" sensors. I thought it was overpriced & as you say no point at all just erasing codes as the fault will remain & the error codes will come back. The...

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

At the other end of the scale I am thinking of going to see a privately advertised 4.6 Vogue, year 2,000, 124,000 miles. MOT till August 20, ad says extensive history, £1750. Only fault mentioned on this one is sagging headlining which I think is about £250 to have sorted locally.

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

What is considered a "fair" price for a 99-02, 4.6 not including H&H & other such vehicles ? I am seeing motors advertised anywhere between £2k"ish to £6k"ish. I went to see a 2001, 4.6 Vogue on petrol & air suspension, 140,000 miles, MOT for 6 months & some service history, 3 months warranty...

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

Thanks very much for the offer but Lancashire is a bit far from Bridgend. I am going to try & drive at least one or 2 of each diesel & petrol P38's & a Disco 2 & see which I prefer.

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

This is all very confusing :) lol I think I best test drive some various models & then ask some more questions ;)

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

I used to beach launch on a very very shallow sloping soft sand beach. You had to go in the water a long way get any depth to be able to get the boat off the trailer, maybe 100 yards to find 2ft of water, any waves would see the underside of vehicle soaked & often water inside the vehicle. As I...
