Am I right to be annoyed

Not an uncommon attitude unfortunately. A new North American Landy magazine started last year. I subscribed, but in the first year there wasn't a mention of Freelanders and just one picture sent in by an owner if I recall. I have renewed for this year as it was a well done mag, but if there is...

    Freelander kv6 cooling problems

My expansion tank had cracks. There was no obvious leakage unless you looked when it was under pressure then you could see fluid coming from the cracks. The tank was only a year old but was an aftermarket tank. I replaced it with a factory tank. Here is a pic to go with my above post showing the...

    Cooling problems kv6 engine

My V6 runs at the same temperatures. I have been running a Wifi OBD reader for measurements. I hardly ever notice my fans kicking in, and yes it does make m nervous but no overheating which is good. There is a bleeder at the back of the rear head to help get any air out of the cooling system.

    Freelander kv6 cooling problems

The temps are about the same as my V6. I find my fans hardly ever kick in either It does make me nervous! I am thinking of changing my thermostat housing as there is a bit of dampness below the housing. (but no pooling water) There is a bleeder behind the rear head which may help get any air out...

    VCU Torque test results

What we need is a spy in the GKN plant to take a picture of the label on the cans of fluid they fill the VCUs with. For all we know they send the shop boy out to McDonalds for a can of used French fry oil.

    Any chance of bomber jackets?

Ooh! Didi Conn (Frenchie) I had the hots for her in my warped youth as well. Must have been the voice! :)

New member, new owner, new problems

I haven't bled the clutch on a Freelander but I have had very good results on other difficult bleeds using a pressure bleeder. I started with a Gunson Eezi-bleed but they need a tyre to supply pressure which is a pain. I recently bought a Motiv Industries bleeder with a built in pump through...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Thanks Nodge! It runs bang on the center line of the temp guage now but I will keep a close eye on it. As bad a job as changing the T-stat is I would rather do that than change the head gaskets! Is it worthwhile going for one of the alloy T-stat housings when changing the stat?

What have you done to your Freelander today

This past weekend I tried out a wifi obd transmitter using an I-phone on the dash. It's interesting seeing the various readings in real time. It did make me realise that the values are not a lot of use without knowing what they should be. I will have to do a bit of research. One that jumped out...

What have you done to your Freelander today

With or wet weather I always use Rain-X as long as you apply it properly it works well. We have had a rotten January with 24 days of rain. I find that with the Rain-X I don't need to use the wipers over 80kph.

What have you done to your Freelander today

It's not a whine, more of a rubbing noise, almost like a worn bearing or bushing. It seems to be coming from the area of the alternator but there is a lot going on there on the V6, alternator, power steering pump, cam belt and it's tensioner and idler pulleys, and the pulleys for the serpentine...

What have you done to your Freelander today

And things were going so well! :( Today when I got home (50 mile round trip commute) the Hippo was making a new noise. A quick listen in the engine compartment leads me to think it's the alternator. Tomorrow I'll pull the engine cover off the V6 and give it a close look.

Freelander 1 How to fit a 50mm Lift Kit

A cm isn't too bad. Some of the photos I have seen showed some serious butchery. I have an implanted defibrillator so I can no longer electric weld but I do have a son-in-law who could do the welding for me. :)

Freelander 1 How to fit a 50mm Lift Kit

Thanks for the tips! When I said terrible it wasn't in reference to the kits but the comments on the metal work required to fit the 50mm lift. Unfortunately I hadn't seen the comments or I would have bought the "Easy" 40mm kit. Cutting away the inner wheelwell metal is no big deal but cutting...
