    Heavy Steering

And Happy New Year to you and all the other Landy Zone folk. Just back from New Year's Eve at the pub probably about the time all of you Brits are tucking into a full English breakfast! (8 hour time difference here in the Pacific time zone)

Of those three it's most likely to be the pump. Good luck!

My God...I fixed the sunroof! Easily!

Lucky you. Mine makes grindy gear noises when I press the switch so I know at least one thing that is wrong with it. I have been thinking about ordering a parts kit for 2 1/2 years and one day I will actually get around to it-Maybe.

Thanks Nodge! I can stop worrying about it now. :)

Freelander 1 Jatco auto gearbox problem

My V6 auto was running terribly with abrupt hard shifts and no power. I was all set to buy a solenoid replacement kit but it turned out that my Power VIS motor was jammed open. I bought a pair of uprated motors and a tester from Byron Rowson and now the Hippo is running smoothly again...

    Texaco 402 ATF

Not sure about the Comma, but I am using Ravenol JF506E with no issues.

Good point about the pipes Hippo. Definitely worth checking. On my FL1 one of the power steering hoses has partially collapsed. I'm sure this limits fluid flow and likely increases the effort needed to steer but it will have to reach the Armstrong point to make me splash for an expensive new...

What have you done to your Freelander today

That was an unexpectedly busy evening! Today my new VIS motors arrived from the UK after being in the mail for over a month. (Our posties were out on strike through November) A quick job after dinner-NOT! I swapped the motors over but the power VIS was running a bit slow. Pulling it off revealed...

    Seeking refuge

:)I know that Nodge! I'm just a bit paranoid. Edit: The amount of rust UK cars have horrifies me. We have lots of rain here too, and they use salt and brine on the roads in the winter but it's rare to see post 1990 cars with rust perforation. My old Hippo has none.

    Seeking refuge

Agreed! Was driving to work at 05:30 the other day forgetting there was a load of wet stuff in the back of the Hippo. I was surprised when the windows started fogging up but the A/C and Recirc air made short work of it. I'm always leery of turning on the heated screen from my old days of driving...

    IRD Filler plug

It's an awful thing to get at on a NA spec V6 as there is a catalytic converter right in front of it. I didn't try going in through the wheel arch-Next time! FWIW: the diff filler isn't much better!

    Freelander 1 LHD headlights

Bummer! But are they acceptable in the EU? Or, ahem, would they be picked up during testing? They would certainly be closer to EU spec than RHD headlights.

    Freelander 1 LHD headlights

You could check scrappers in Canada or the USA if you can't find anything closer. Here is one link I found: http://www.roverlandparts.com/Freelander-headlights.aspx Pre-facelift headlights list at $50.00/ea.

how does the freelander drive in snow?

Two and a half years ago I moved from the flatlands to a place on top of a hill and was forward-thinking enough to buy my Freelander for the commute. That winter we had the worst snow for 10 years and of course the Hippo's ECU packed it in as soon as the snow started so my MGF had to be pressed...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Well Rob, I just got back from a 40km test drive and the noise appears to be gone. (Cautiously optimistic!) The Hippo is running quite smoothly so I am happy about that. However it seems that my balance VIS motor has packed it in out of spite so I pulled out the flap assembly till the new one...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Well. after a week of work I got my FL1 back together. It started first try with no leaks. Then it started acting like a freelander…..On the test drive I noticed it sounded butch, with an exhaust growl it didn't have before. My guess is the flange gasket that I reused might be blowing. Shortly...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Nearing the end now....all belts on, A/C compressor on, R/H engine mounts are back together (Like building the bloody Eiffel tower!) and the jack is out from underneath. It may be finished this afternoon if I push through, or if I am sensible, tomorrow. Just out of curiosity (And so I can...

What have you done to your Freelander today

It's coming together! Today went much better, cams changed, front belt on and reassembly has started. After a bit of persuasion the cam carrier popped off, and I was able to winkle an impact gun through the mass of hoses and wiring to get the rearmost pulley off. Unfortunately I had to pay local...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Well, Today's goal was to finish installing the timing belts on my KV6. Unfortunately the old bucket of bolts bit me on the ass today, or more accurately the idiot that had the engine apart last did. When you set the timing on a KV6 you loosen off the front timing pulleys to allow some...
