    Defender Turbos

Hi, I replaced the turbo cartridge several years ago on my 200 with a cheap chinese one when money was a bit tight, and now it's gone tight. I bought a second hand turbo with the aim of replacing the bearings and seals.,but have come up on a problem. The old turbo was a Garret T25, whereas the...

    Lt77 Output Shaft Wear levels

That's a relief. There's usually something I manage to get wrong, good thing the forums and the experience are here otherwise I'd be completely stumped. Thanks for everyone's help, should be back up and running again soon with any luck.

    Lt77 Output Shaft Wear levels

After removing that bolt,it will now turn over. Seems that I got the bolts in the wrong sequence. Am I likely to have done any damage to the internals? Thanks for the suggestion, I do seem to have an innate ability to cause problems. .

    Lt77 Output Shaft Wear levels

Hi,just about to reconnect the propshafts but thought I'd spin it all over first to check everything is alright. When I have the gearbox in any gear and the transfer box in low or high range everything completely locks. I have tried barring the engine over gently so that it is being driven from...

    Lt77 Output Shaft Wear levels

Box is now in,just got to finish setting the high/ low range and the diff lock selector. Sure it's the lower ratio as it's got a land rover sticker with 1.2 on it. Went in fairly easily in the end, thanks for the tips about the input gear. As for the Speedo drive,I was going to use the one the...

    Lt77 Output Shaft Wear levels

Just had a look at the backplates, the cables seem to be the same. Is this likely to mean I had a disco box in the first place? Old one on right,Disco box on left. Thanks to everyone who has replied, much appreciated.

    Lt77 Output Shaft Wear levels

No, didn't know about the backplates, the cable looked similar though. I'll look in the morning though. The props were the same ones ive using for the last couple of years, just wondered if the diffs fitted to discos were slightly longer.

    Lt77 Output Shaft Wear levels

Will try not to mess it up,no guarantees though.I didn't remove the input gear when I split it from the gearbox , read somewhere that the lower ratio disco box's had to be realigned once the gear had been removed. While I'm here, how much should the rear propshaft be compressed when fitted? I've...

    Lt77 Output Shaft Wear levels

Hi, I appreciate there is a lot out there about the wear on the output shaft of the Lt 77, but I couldn't find the answer. After finally getting the time to work on it, I'm currently fitting a Disco transfer box to my 200 tdi Defender. I got the old transfer box out today and noticed the wear on...

    Defender Castor Angle

Hi, Thanks for replying. The previous owner never said why it had a Wolf axle on it, not sure they fitted it. I haven't got time to check the splines at the moment, but I believe its a metric axle. The Radius arms are the ones it came with, they look fairly standard, but I dont know how to tell...

    Defender Castor Angle

Hi, I have been having an ongoing issue with my Defender 200tdi. The steering feels very vague, and does not want to stay in a straight line. I believe I may have found the fault, but have no idea why its got it. I believe the Castor angle on the front axle is wrong, as the angle of the...

    Very Stiff Defender steering

Hi, I'll check the tension on the box tomorrow. If that's fine whats the best way of deciding whether it's the pump or box at fault? Thanks

    Very Stiff Defender steering

Hi, What's the best way to adjust it to the correct tension? The method I tried before wasn't that clear. I only realised how bad it was when I moved the other Landy on the drive. Thanks

    Very Stiff Defender steering

Hi, Thanks for all the replies. I jacked it up the other day and checked the swivels and they seemed fine. When I checked the UJ's I disconnected the steering column and It seemed to spin easily. The box was adjusted however that didnt seem to make much of a difference to the tension. Thanks

    Very Stiff Defender steering

Hi, Since rebuilding my Defender in the spring, the steering has been fairly stiff. I've checked the UJ's which were fine and also bled the pump, and retightned the belt but it hasn't made any difference. Has anyone got any suggestions on what I can try next? Thanks
