Gringey whine from the gearbox area!!

Certainly not poor memory...as for bull****..the garage in question has long since been demolished...but it was subject to a trading standards investigation on a few ocassions. The guy who told me was their chief mechanic ! The irony is that he was one of the best E-type mechanics on merseyside...

Gringey whine from the gearbox area!!

I used to know an Austin Rover mechanic who had been brought up with the British Leyland way of doing things...and he told me that they would routinely 'fix' a noisy gearbox for their customers by putting a banana-skin in the gearbox itself. He claimed that it wouldn't actually damage the box...

    Brakes series 3 swb

I have always bled my brakes with a Halfords 'tight git' bleeding kit for 'one man' use....it is just a tube with a one-way valve on the end. You attach to the nipple, open the nipple and just push the brake pedal a few times....it has ALWAYS worked. What is the benefit over that piece of kit...

    WTF was LR Thinking?

What were LR engineers thinking when they decided to use THREE different types of screw to hold on the Series 3 front grille: I checked the parts catalogue...and it really does use a machine screw, wood screw and two self-tapping screws !! What could possibly have been the engineering...

    zenith mixture screw...

I'm still waiting for Craddocks to send me my order of stuff placed last week and for which they took my money but their system still says 'not yet sent'. No replies to my comms. Service in the UK is CRAP !

    Cooling when off roading....

I was just about to post a thread about buying a Kenlowe fan - is it worth it? The problem with my Landy is the time it takes to warm up in very cold conditions (like the last few winters we have had). It always cools just fine in the summer - even when off roading in low range (with the stock...

    Oil leak Advice Needed (pics)

I fixed it!! It was two loose flange bolts. Call me a suspicious bastid but.... the two loose bolts looked cleaner than the others...and the other bolts were solidly tightened up.....also, one of the wheel nuts was so torqued up I actually snapped then wheel wrench trying to remove it (I...

    Oil leak Advice Needed (pics)

Thanks guys...I will check breather..and if that is ok it will be wheel-off time. I may as well re-paint them while the weather is good ;)

    Oil leak Advice Needed (pics)

Well...my Landie has decided to punish my smugness for passing the MOT with no advisories. After driving back from the MOT centre and parking up on my driveway...it decided to **** out some oil. Normally it is very oil-tight. At first I thought it was brake fluid coming from the brake...

    Hard work paid off!

I took my series 3 in to the garage for the annual MOT today. A few hours later and the phone rang....as nervous as a teenager seeing a pussy for the first time! Then the unexpected and pleasant surprise of the guy saying "It passed...sailed through with no advisories" !! Last summer I spent a...

    Snow Pics !

Nice Pics those. Good looking tyres on DBV 224B I know the subject has been done to death...but I wish to God there was an effective and not expensive way of getting the cab warm on a series. Even being a fat bloke with lots of layers of clothes on I nearly freeze to death. My propshaft was...

I agree with Oxides, Modern inertia reel seatbelts Reversing light I have also replaced the centre seat with a cubby box (makes a big difference - can keep satnav, sweets, torch and odd bit of shopping in there) I also bought a vinyl door trim kit to make the interior look a little less...

    Snow Pics !

I'm sure I am not alone being smug....driving through the deep snow while boring japanese hatchbacks struggle to even move at all!! I went to Southport beach today (Just north of Liverpool) and had the expanse of it almost to myself - except for a Disco and some guy in an Audi Quattro who...

what are series III diesels like

Of the three SIII LRs I have owned..one was a diesel...I had it way back in 1992. I went on a road trip in it with my recently divorced cousin (who was a germ warfare specialist at Porton Down and thought he could handle any rugged outdoor lifestyle)...we went down though Ireland from the Ferry...

range rover seats in to series

My fat belly is already touching the steering wheel with stock seats...can I assume that fitting RR seats would cause the wheel to push my lungs up out of my mouth

    mild restoration of Irish 2A

That's a great job you've done there mate...well done! The pics are great too-thanks! Like most series owners I try and do at least one or two jobs every weekend...more like a rolling restoration that never ends ... but you have obviously put in a lot of hard work to do all that.
