    P38 Side Step replacement

Discovered that pressing and holding the rear wash button results in a spray eventually - so I imagine that the non-return valve is ... er ... allowing returns. Probably lack of use, hopefully it will clear itself and start stopping the return flow, if you see what I mean.

    P38 Side Step replacement

Side-steps removed - looks so much better - that comment ref muffin-tops is so accurate. Now it has the correct "stance" to use a hoodie expression.

    P38 Side Step replacement

Oh boy. I think I'll start with the easy stuff and take off the panel at the top the rear window. I recently replaced the foam filter, so might well have dislodged something in the rear washer pipework....

Valid point. I'll remove them and go from there. Thanks for the comment...

    P38 Side Step replacement

Oh dear. Closer inspection reveals that the front screen washers pipe fell off the non-return valve. Pushed it back on and ordered the right size of mikalor clip. A long motorway run warmed up the pipe. Now I need to trace the rear pipe and hope to find the same problem. I can hear the pump...

    P38 Side Step replacement

OK, undeterred, I'll ask a technical question (Have searched the forum and can't find a relevant answer to this). Running down the M11 to Stansted in my P38 with the rain bucketing down stair-rods. All fine, but then for no good reason, both front and rear screen washers stopped spraying, at the...

    P38 Side Step replacement

..answer came there none. Never mind. Next question: any recommendations for a top quality outside cover?

    P38 Side Step replacement

My 1997 P38 has what I think are standard JLR running boards, with rubber end caps. The pipework has rusted through and I am thinking of replacing them. Rimmers have some aftermarket ones (STC8500) that look simpler but that would be a good thing. They also have some "Rock Tree sliders" which...

L322 2002 L322 Range Rover Vogue Central locking not working

Yeah, crap Italian engineering. Back in the 80’s a pal of mine had a Ferrari 512BB. It had a flat 12, 5 litre engine with four triple down draft Weber carbs and went like stink. What rubbish. But why get one of those when you could have a rust-bucket Land Rover…

L322 2002 L322 Range Rover Vogue Central locking not working

Point taken. As I don’t do many miles, I top up the battery charge using my CTek charger. Ctek advise regularly using the higher-voltage “refresh” setting. I need to check the procedure for updating the alternator, hopefully can be done in situ? Interestingly, the Marelli alternator has a “Made...

L322 2002 L322 Range Rover Vogue Central locking not working

The perceived wisdom on here generally seems to be that you should fit an oversized Korean truck battery and wind the alternator voltage up so the poor thing is flogging away above its designed output. Oil-burners might need this but elegant 4-litre engines are happy with the setup as specified...

I note a Scottish tone here so the wind is a-swirlin’ and the pipes a-skirlin’ and a draft up yer kilt… that is so “Series”…

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Christmas Day + Boxing Day: 260+ miles to visit daughter for Christmas in Broadstairs. Decided to fill with Shell 95 octane E10 as apparently this is fine for my '97 4.0SE, although I have only ever used Shell V+ in the past. Ran beautifully both ways, 20 mpg even with the usual 4-mile crawling...

    P38A Brakes!

Actually, the thing I like most about my P38 is that you have to be close to the soul of the machine. So much better than a soul-less "modern" car, if you like that sort of involvement, which I do. I am on three presses, which is what you would expect I guess. New accumulator and fresh brake...

Scary - not exactly a fail-safe system. I think my accumulator is OK - is that what you mean by "sphere"? Does mine in the photo look OK do you think? Thank you...!

    P38A Brakes!

I got a P38 (my first Range Rover) to avoid the huge tax cost for post-2001 cars (at the time). I was not then sure about getting a P38 rather than a later L322 which (L322) surely must be a better, improved, fault-free car? Yes? As I understand it, the P38 is the last of the medieval...
