    Defender 90 exhaust help

You can try Paddock Spares, Island 4x4, Bearmach, Rimmer Bros, LR Direct to name a few. I believe all are open but delivery may be a bit slow currently.

2.5 n/a lumpy idle and white smoke missfire?

It won’t take much to pull the push rods and check them for straightness. Have you checked the timing of the fuel pump itself too using the timing kit? It sounds a frustrating issue which could be anything, might even just need a good running in with some decent fuel if it’s been sat around a while.

D90 with Roof Top Tent - ARB needed yes/no?

My opinion is yes fit one, or an alternative as recommended above. For an expedition your going to want comfortable suspension, suitably weighted for your load. With a roof tent giving high centre of gravity you’ll benefit from the roll bars. Like you say, disconnect them if you want/need...

    1986 90 - transmission brake

Definitely clean out the expander. Mine was struggling, gave it a good flush out with brake cleaner & oil and it’s rock solid like new now. When off-roading, especially wading, grit and dirt get into the mechanism and jam it up.

    Thoughts on the 12J engine?

Welcome, check out the 2.5na part of the forum and have a read through. Plenty of opinions. One example; https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/2-5-good-or-bad.213450/

    Land Rover 90 (1987) - LEZ Charges

You’d have to send them a picture and ask. If your buying the seats then to-date you’ll be subject to LEZ so likely have to pay for your recent use. It’s only intended to be station wagons that are exempt, yours looks like it was a commercial 90 hard top which has after market side windows...

    Defender...

I’m not a welder/metalworker but it still looks to have plenty of solid metal left. If you are in an area that gets the roads gritted a lot in winter the salt can bite pretty hard pretty quickly on new bits of steel.

    Land Rover 90 (1987) - LEZ Charges

Are the rear seats side facing bench seats or fixed forward facing ones? If the latter it says there you can apply to TFL for exemption. Obviously you’ll need to fit them first, or send an older picture with them fitted. If they are side facing bench seats then you have to pay. Best give them a...

New Defender Wolf Owner - Advice appreciated!

Unfortunately driving it can be the best cure, there’s only so much you can do revving it on your drive. It’s a case of do a few things I.e fuel system, then take it for a drive and see how you do. If it’s still not right you check a few other bits like timing. You also need to consider when the...

    Diff lock

I’ve had this a few times, but the last time I jacked it up to release the windup. Front wheel managed at least half a turn when it lifted off the ground!

New Defender Wolf Owner - Advice appreciated!

Nice purchase, love to see pics. As above it’s likely been stood around a lot and obviously waded in salt water, I’d be servicing the fuel system, injector cleaner, premium diesel. Don’t forget it should have a sedimenter in the rear wheel arch. Another job often done by WW owners is to work...

    Lightweight with diesel

Obviously an original petrol in good condition is most valuable. However a decent lightweight with a good diesel is still good value. (Mally has mentioned Dutch ones) A lot have tdi conversions to make them more usable. It’s more down to if you want collectible originality or classic but...

    Door alignment

Presume the gaps to the front and rear of the door are even. When I put my doors back on I got the gap between the tub and door correct first, a small bit of movement in the hinges will be seen biggest at the rear edge of the door. The front should fit regardless. Also where your finger is in...
