Hi all, I'm looking to get a replacement gearbox for my 300tdi. I've been looking at Ashcroft's, and they offer to put a V8 5th gear of .732 ratio. Has anyone got any experience of this? My TDI feels pretty strong, but is standard, and I don't want it to be gutless in 5th gear. Thanks!

Always plenty to keep you busy with a defender! You'll certainly never be bored that's for sure! Just as soon as everything seems to be working, another issue will be sure to develop soon enough!

Check the terminals in the starter, if not Its likely to be the starter motor or solenoid. The click you hear is most likely the solenoid pushing out, but the motor isn't turning. Make sure the terminals are good, and measure the resistance between the terminals and the battery. The wires...

Obvious first place to start would be earth strap to battery, not sure where it goes to on a td5 though. It has to be something obvious like that to completely stop everything working!

What engine defender have you test driven?

I know it's too late now, but in the future I'd advise if anyone is buying a landy off the forum, they search the sellers previous posts. This will often show up all the issues they've been having etc, and can save you finding them for yourself. Sad to hear people on here lying to others to...

I personally would hold out. Don't rush into buying a defender, there's plenty of dodgey ones out there. If the numbers don't match, then there's a reason. Steer clear in my opinion.

Certainly not many auto V8 defenders about. I'd imagine most are homemade jobs, or expensive special editions.

I think a Disco may suit him better to be honest!

The base model discoverys didn't have sunroofs. A friend has one with out sunroofs and it is pretty much rto free. I had a tdi disco before getting my tdi defender and they are so much more refined! You'll get plenty of tdi disco from the proceeds of defender sale! You should get a mint disco...
