Great show, went last year but can't make this one. Lots of trade stands so ideal if you need tools etc. Worth going to the show just for the trade stands in my opinion!

5k will get you a decent 300tdi, up to around 1998 I believe. Anything newer will most likely have issues for that amount of money! Are you wanted a station wagon (rear windows and seats) or hard top (like a van). Hard tops seem to be cheaper. As with what to look for, rust rust and rust...

300tdi here, commute 40 miles a day, I get on ok with it, so a TD5 should be luxurious in comparison!

Filter changed this morning and I have taken it for a 10 mile fast drive, and I cannot replicate original fault! So far so good. Thanks Rob!!

I will be SO happy if this is the case. I did run the tank pretty low, it took 45 litres to fill it so couldn't be nice in there! I will replace that tomorrow - thanks.

Cheers Mick, I've actually got a mechanics stethoscope, the noise is definitely coming from the FI pump, but I can't work out why!

Cheers guys. I've just been out for a little play now to try and track the fault down. Removing the fuel filter end of the pipe from lift pump to fuel filter and turning the engine over results in loads of diesel coming out the pipe, so all good to fuel filter... Pretty sure lift pump is...

My 300 tdi will sit happily at 70mph. Not noticeably noisier than at around 60mph. It's mainly wind noise rather than engine noise etc. Not sure whether I've just been lucky, or there's a problem with my ears!!

As James has said above. The 300tdi is a great car. I love mine and it's my only car, but a TD5 will probably offer that extra bit of comfort. Great engine tone and more tuneable.
