Anyone know what this is gunked into the back of my drivers side cylinder head (the black rubbery half round thing)? Its leaking oil and making an unholy mess of the street (its between the rocker gasket and the head). Need to know what it is unless it comes as part of a rocker cover gasket kit...

Definitely not for the purists almost to the point of ruining the car but it was like this when I bought it and haven't felt the urge to put a silencer back on it yet.

With the cruise on and a flat road it's pretty quiet but give it some throttle and it'll wake the dead. I've never had a pedestrian step out in front of this car, it's true what they say, loud pipes save lives lol

It's had the rear silencer removed which makes it sound a bit lumpy at lower rpm but it's the same as it was before the tapping appeared.

Thanks for that. I am hoping it's a lifter after putting the crap oil in. Haven't done the air bleed exercise for the lifters yet but going to satisfy myself it's not something more serious first. The car has quite a bad oil leak so it has about a litre a week, probably a bit less to around 300...

I'm never that lucky. It does sound like a tappet but a heavier knock than a usual light tappet noise and can't figure out why it appears between certain revs at light throttle. Typical Range Rover!
