Ye I think he already had one mate, it wasn't his first vanos job

Thanks mate, don't know anyone with a faultmate unless somebody pops into this thread who can help. I'm in Manchester today then I'm heading back home to Derby later. Anyone? Lol. You are correct, my engine is the BMW M62TUB44 with vanos on the inlet cams. I have had both vanos units resealed...

A big end bearing would knock louder at higher revs at light throttle. Once the engine passes 1500 revs it's like a new engine, not a sound. P. S. I've got it back, the tapping sounds more or less the same but the engine itself is completely silent, it's lovely. It seems to have lost a bit of...

Just had a listen to the video in the last link you posted, his carries on tapping when he raises the revs, mine stops tapping when revved. Not saying mine is a different fault, just highlighting the slightly different symptoms. Cheers

Never seen that one but I did the bleed procedure several times before surgery without success. I didn't do the 15 minute bleed on any occasion and I'm sure it hasn't been bled since the vanos and chain were done. Bearing in mind it hasn't run for about 8 weeks until Wednesday, I can live in...

    L322 V8 tap tap tap

I have come across all those articles while I was deciding what needed to be changed to fix it. Mine is a weird one in that if the engine is at low idle (around 500 - 600 rpm) there is no noise. When the revs are raised to around 750 rpm by turning on the a/c, it starts to tap then if I continue...

Being done today mate. It still has to be a faulty lifter as the oil pressure is high enough to knock the light out and it's just 1 lifter tapping. If they were all tapping I'd be putting a pump on it without needing to check the pressure.

Thanks, I've tried a lifter additive, bought 2 cans at a tenner each to take into account the massive oil capacity but still no joy. Doing the oil pump is probably cheaper than replacing the lifters and if I honestly thought that would cure it I'd be straight on it but I think I'll do the...

    L322 V8 tap tap tap

Thanks lads, oil pressure hasn't been checked yet but should be getting done before I get it back. That said, the engine is spot on while idling except for this one tap. I'll be honest, I originally thought it was a lifter and should have stuck to my guns. The engine was flushed and oil and...

    L322 V8 tap tap tap

Still tapping  On the up side, I know it's not the chain or the guides now so I'm gonna run it as it is until I get the inclination to sort it, starting with a new set of followers. Happy but not happy, I'd have thought if it was the followers it would tap all through the revs but it...

    L322 V8 tap tap tap

Ye probably, been 10 weeks without it now and as much as I'm looking forward to getting it back, if he needs to take his time to make sure he's done a thorough job, I don't really mind waiting a bit longer.

Lol. No, I asked him to take pics but that's about it mate. Still no phone call to pick it up so don't think I'll have it back till next week now

Well spotted Saint, yes, it has a BRC lpg kit fitted. The only things that were found to be wrong when it was stripped was the Vanos seals were squared off (worn), there was a stone in the sump (God knows), the right cam chain tensioner was knackered (wouldn't fully compress and wouldn't pump...

Had a drive and went to see my car today while dropping off the new vanos distribution housing. It doesn't look good but I've been told the end is near. Got a feeling there's gonna be bits left over lol.

They're in, wasn't me that did it but I get told the seals went in easy but the teflon ring was a bit of a bitch lol
