    Farmershort attempt to spray paint!

It's in the OP chap ;) Look, my view is this: People giving advice on the internet about spray painting are largely (but not totally) in one of 2 groups: 1) people recycling received wisdom they read elsewhere on the internet. 2) people with a vested interest in making it sound difficult...

    Farmershort attempt to spray paint!

Thanks for the input stretch, but I don't think a lot of that applies to coach enamel. This is 100% the reason for me posting this thread. In fact the chap who sells the paint says he'd have no issue with painting outside at this time of year. So I don't think humidity is such a factor...

    Farmershort attempt to spray paint!

Did a bit more today. 2 coats of the HB primer. Bit of a bugger that it's exactly the same shade of grey as the acid etch! FYI, this is dark grey HB primer - the correct colour for under keswick green. Before painting anything, I gave the whole panel a run down with a lint free cloth and some...

110 defender rebuild project and v8 conversion

Some new toys arrived this morning... Getting ahead of myself perhaps: Terrafirmer HD tapered bumper, with massai spot light bar.

We'd best tell @Cashpat that the promise from the other thread has risen from the dead ;)

    Farmershort attempt to spray paint!

Hi all. As suggested on a previous thread, I'm going to keep a thread on my progress spraying synthetic coach enamel on my landy project. If any of this goes well, then I'll edit it into a how-to. Today I managed to get my first of coat of paint - acid etch primer - on a proper body panel. I'm...

110 defender rebuild project and v8 conversion

Forgot about that... All marsland chassis are td5 spec aren't they... I can see how that nas spec mount works, Which is good, but I've no clue about that set up I'm afraid. 300tdi xmember seems the far easier idea.

110 defender rebuild project and v8 conversion

If it's an r380 then I don't understand how it can mount anywhere other than on the xmember. I'm certainly not the most experienced person here mind you...

110 defender rebuild project and v8 conversion

Oh... So you're talking about lt85/95 then? Not the r380 which was the manual option in the disco.

I'll take some photos of the xmember holes for you.... That chassis has an awful lot of holes!

I'll sort the part numbers for you all tomorrow... As far as the diagrams go, just treat it as a v8 manual disco. Parts catalogue (us version I think) online. You should use a 300tdi x member I think... The tubular one is the lt77 one isn't it?

    Help needed - fitting r380 to v8

Long story short... I'm too inexperienced. I had effectively fitted the box correctly the other night... I just had no idea what was acceptable in terms of nipping the bolts up. Basically the new dowels were very tight on the holes, and needed ever so slight help from the bolts. But it all went...

    Help needed - fitting r380 to v8

It'll take me an hour to get the gearbox all lined up and connected again, and pack up time... And I don't have a clutch alignment tool (till.my mate brings it tomorrow). I know there's the trick with the soft wood and a scrap clutch, but again, too late in the evening for all that. If the...

    Help needed - fitting r380 to v8

So the inner red bit it what I was measuring to anyway... And the spring tines bend inwards slightly don't they... So the answer will be just over 20mm

So straight edge across cover plate, to inner face of the friction plate boss? Sorry if I'm missing something..

    Help needed - fitting r380 to v8

The leading face of the friction plate boss (at the buldge, not the splines) to the leading face of the cover plate spring tines (so including the thickness of the tines) is 20mm. But... The opening in the tines is about 50mm. The diameter of the bearing slide tube is more like 45mm. Ergo, the...

You mean the clutch cover spring tines to the friction plate spline boss leading edge?

    Help needed - fitting r380 to v8

I'm not ignoring the clutch removal suggestion, it's just too late tonight, and I've got a mate coming to give me a 2nd pair of hands tomorrow... Just trying to do as much as possible with maths... And kind of enjoying it if I'm honest!
