    Freelander 2 buying advice

I have also been reading that ptu and diff oil changes are more labour intensive as there are no drain plugs. Is that true? How would you go about doing an oil change at home? Thanks

Thanks that is really helpful. I think I have just got comfortable/resigned at times with the D2 so I forget or ignore the fact that issues will always be round the corner. All we can do is keep on top of maintenance.

Just a quick update. I’m still thinking about it. Test drive went well. No apparent issues. The Haldex unit was serviced last December so that is something. Aside from that and the annual engine oil service, it doesn’t look as though the other fluids have been looked at. The timing belt is...

Just to update you. I had a test drive. I was very impressed overall with the drive and pull of the engine (I have been in a d2 for a year so perhaps that accounts for it). The ride is a little pitchy through the corners but I put that down to the steering which compared to the d2 is very...

    D2 Central locking not locking.

Yes I suspect you are right. I’ll get one.

    D2 Central locking not locking.

Thanks for your advice. Do you think worth changing as a precaution?

    D2 Central locking not locking.

That was right. However just gone out for a quick drive this evening and suddenly the central locking kicked in when I stopped and turned ignition off. Not sure if messing around with doors etc help but now back working. Very odd.

    D2 Central locking not locking.

I unplugged the actuator and tried again. Sadly didn’t not change anything.

    D2 Central locking not locking.

Thanks. I will try 1 in the morning. As for 2 I would say 3/4. I have a multimeter but not an expert with it. Have used it to sort lights and motor issues on 1987 90 but that doesn’t take much skill.

Great thanks. I thought it couldn’t be receiver if the locks sounded like they wanted to move but didn’t when I pressed the fob. It has been raining a lot so could be issue.

    D2 Central locking not locking.

Hi For no apparent reason my central locking is no longer unlocking when I turn ignition off or when I reach the minimum speed for it to lock. Also the central locking won’t lock on the fob although it sounds like it is trying to. Instead I get the alarm beep which usually means a door is open...

Oh yes. Most things can be sorted (at a price) but I need to make sure I want it. D2 must be concerned with potential purchase as the remote central locking stopped working today. Works on the dash button but not the remote. More fun.

Thanks. Yes I plan to have a thorough test drive and go from there. Given the options in this price range for landrovers it is a little bit tricky finding something newer. I really like the d3 and d4s but I know it will be hopeless. I test drove a td5 110 and aside from the dampness (leaks...

    Freelander 2 buying advice

Yes, a question I am going to ask as well. I believe it is the former, 4 years late. I also expect that the Haldex has never been looked at. I found a service schedule online so will go through that to see what the annual service actually consists of. Having now changed all the fluids in my...

Ah. I did wonder. She mentioned they are doing the water pump at the same time too. Probably best to do the aux belt too if it’s anything like the disco. Just have to convince myself I need to replace the disco but sure it’s only a matter of time before it bites me again.

Should have also added she is changing the timing chain before sale as well.

Thanks. I’ve been carrying out maintenance on my d2 and 200tdi defender for the last couple of years so feel more confident than I did that I can take on a lot of tasks. Anything chassis/welding wise though i would leave to an expert. My friend has left the maintenance to her local independent...
