First thing is to identify what relay is permanently energising, shouldn’t be to difficult. Then go from there. You could do a earth leakage test, but you need to sort the relay issue first.

I have done what your suggesting many times with no issues. I have never heard of a reason why it should be a problem.

I just use one of the old steel wheels as a spare, with a set of cone nuts to suit.

Mines on the back door and never been a problem. I also think it looks best mounted there! I have alloys, but my spare is a standard steel wheel. It’s a lot of lost space putting it inside.

Change the pair for new aftermarket , they are cheap. Fairly easy to fit, I think I reverse bled mine with an oil can.

I fitted a heated screen with an aftermarket seal. I watched a couple of you tube clips, dunked the seal in hot water, and got the wife to help on outside of the screen applying light pressure where and when needed. I can honestly say it was fairly easy, and I wondered what the fuss is about!

Maybe you have an issue with your starting circuit. Check and test starter solenoid and starter relay.

Alternators and starter motors are common culprits, as the carbon brush dust can make a track to earth.

Just to add, check your alternator is charging (my charge voltage is 14.4v)

Hi, it seems you have a short to earth which is draining your battery. With everything off on the car, internal lights, alarms etc. disconnect earth lead on battery and measure inline current between earth lead and negative terminal on battery. I removed the roof to do my cappings as I had other jobs to do. I also used the correct seals between roof and capping. Additionally I filled the gap between capping and roof with semi setting gutter sealant. I actually repaired my cappings and galvanised them, I did not paint them
