No fuel or temperature gauges & no instrument lighting

Yes, remove those two and the whole binnacle comes out. Should be able to probe the back of the stabiliser with a multimeter.

No fuel or temperature gauges & no instrument lighting

More likely to be a voltage problem than earth, as the gauges are earthed through the senders respectively.

Series 3 Brake master freeplay at the push rod

Fitted a Bearmach master cylinder today that had the correct amount of freeplay between rod and piston. As expected, brakes working fine and no bind. Will open another warranty claim against the Britpart master. I just can't understand how it's gone from working fine to having no freeplay at all.

Series 3 Brake master freeplay at the push rod

Evening all, Trying to get to the bottom of a brake problem. All new system and new cylinders recently fitted due to rust. I initially thought that is what caused my wheel bind, but with new cylinders on the problem persists. In short, hydraulic pressure remains in the system after brakes...

Series 3 Britpart wheel cylinders, premature failure.

I have been through a few fords recently and a spot of off roading, but always washed down and stored indoors. Admittedly I could have cleaned inside the drums better than I did, however the rear cylinders had exactly the same treatment and have faired very well.

Series 3 Britpart wheel cylinders, premature failure.

Yes, all new fluid as well as all other brake components. I wasn't questioning Britparts standards against regulations, I agree that they will meet or even exceed them which is why I'm not concerned using Britpart parts. I think there's way too much snobbery surrounding the use of blue box...

Series 3 Britpart wheel cylinders, premature failure.

No grease fitted that time but have done so on the replacements. Agreed ref. consequences of fitting cheap parts to safety critical components, however I'm a mechanic by trade and this vehicle is inspected regularly, so I'm not concerned in that respect. Blue box or not, things still have to be...

Series 3 Britpart wheel cylinders, premature failure.

Evening all, New brakes ordered up last year for my rebuild under DA6044 from Paddocks. Brake shoes, springs, cylinders etc, Britpart branded. No problems for the first couple of months, but a heavily binding front nearside wheel prompted investigation. All front cylinders heavily corroded...

    New bulkhead advice

I've recently had a Shielder bulkhead from Terrian Tech and wouldn't really recommend. Lots of mounting holes in the wrong place, only by a few mm but enough that things don't fit. They would be better off providing no holes at all. Windscreen hinge brackets were a particular problem as there...

Series 2 please may I borrow your Zenith Carb (Bridport Dorset)?

Give M Bartlett and Sons a call, they aren't too far from you and might have one in the workshop.

Mazda RX8 Seats in a Series

I share the same thoughts about Series seats, so had a set of early Defender seats retrimmed in leather and heated elements fitted. Still look original enough and much comfier.

    S3 diesel pipes

Have a read through this old thread of mine; I had the same problem which was rectified by more bleeding. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/fuel-priming-problems.369515/

Series 3 A chance to get muddy

That was in Dorset, off to North Devon for the week tomorrow, hopefully the weather holds out enough for another play.

Series 3 A chance to get muddy

Just keeping it honest! I'd planned to (and still might) give it a full spray job, but there's a part of me that wants to keep it all as is, to show what has been done and not try to make it something its not.

Series 3 A chance to get muddy

I'm lucky enough to have access to some nice areas for off roading, so today decided to take the Series 3 to have a play rather than our usual work vehicles. Very happy with how it performed, no winching needed! Only a few photos, hopefully more next week...

    gps speedo

Agreed, the manual leaves a lot up to the tester in terms who opinion and speculation. I've not decided if it makes it easier or harder!

7.8 in the manual, anything post 1937 needs checking. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-for-private-passenger-and-light-commercial-vehicles/7-other-equipment

    Series 3 109 - 1973 - Full Restore

Had a stone shatter the windscreen on Monday, but that gave me an opportunity to fold the windscreen down and check the clearance on the Defender type washer jets fitted. Result, they clear well! Very good upgrade as far as I'm concerned, with only a little bit of work to get them to fit.

    gps speedo

Unfortunately an MOT fail, or if MOT exempt renders the vehicle not road worthy. Edit. Apologies, read this wrong. Thought you had a non working speedo and fitted as a replacement.
