Hi guys, I have a 2001 TD5, and have decided after having replaced the clapped out Watts linkage bushes that I will replace the shocks and front springs (have rear air). I don't want any lift, but do do a bit of towing so wondered if I could have a reasonable recommendation for replacement...

Decent set of sockets (probably 3/8ths drive, but 1/2" also if you plan on doing heavy suspension work).

You can blank off the EGR. Whether this makes much of a difference or not depends on whether your existing EGR is faulty or not. 27mpg on a normal run doesn't sound THAT far off. David

They are the same. But if you are going to do some replacing, I'd replace the lot. You can get some heavy GKN ones, which are more robust than the originals, and better still, have grease nipples unlike the original ones fitted in the Hookes (WTF!) David

Put some spray grease on it or it will die like mine did about a month later. Obviously, at the most inconvenient time possible.

If you haven't removed the pump and fitted the idler pulley instead, you're going to be in for a mighty shock when it seizes for lack of lubricant/ACE fluid...

The TD5 doesn't afaik, it is *all* electronic. The V8 has bellows etc IIRC. David

Why do you think there would be bellows? It's all done electronically by the ECU. David

I had recurrent failures after using the WD40 - worked for a bit then stiffened up again over time. Followed advice on here and covered the bastard in spray grease - no problems since :D

Nothing - it is an angle tightness setting, and you can't convert it. Get an angle gauge... David
