    TYRE MINEFIELD

Don't think you can ever go far wrong with Michelin's. I have Michelin's on our cars and Motor home, but I will try these next time round. They get very good reviews for Motor homes, better than Michelin's

    TYRE MINEFIELD

PNEU VREDESTEIN QUATRAC 5 235/60R18107 W . I don't know if you can get them in the UK but these are rated here on the continent and are a little less expensive. They get a better rating than the Michelin crossover's...

    Canvas roof to Hard Top

I live in the French countryside where I am happy to report security is not an issue here. So might be the route for me to go. People still leave there front doors unlocked overnight, keys left in the ignition that sort of thing. Postman signs for deliveries if your not in etc etc.

That's what I want to do.

    Canvas roof to Hard Top

I'm thinking of going the other way. From a hard top to a soft top. Interested to know why your going for a hard top? I want ta soft top so I can enjoy the hot sunny days here in the south of France by rolling back the soft top during the summer. I used to have a soft top TR6 which I found very...

Pulled for going too slow on the motorway

I had a Lambreter LD150. I think I pushed it further than I rode it. Cables kept breaking, Kick starter kept falling off. I remember going over a biggish bump in the road and I ended up airborne leaving the seat completely whilst my scooter carried on down the road. Both engine covers came off...

Pulled for going too slow on the motorway

If I remember correctly if you were riding one with a car license you had to have L plates and no passenger. I stand to be corrected.

Pulled for going too slow on the motorway

Yes, they do clear the roads faster here in France when it snows. More manpower is available, plus we get snow every year so it's worth investing in the machinery to deal with it all. Unlike the UK which only gets snow now and again. Christmas eve the snow plows are out as the snow is falling.

Pulled for going too slow on the motorway

What amazes me is the speed with which they clear up accidents here in France and repair the barriers. In the UK the motorways and roads are closed off for ages. I was driving into Paris recently and a large motor home was completely on its side. I thought to myself I'm going to hit a traffic...

Pulled for going too slow on the motorway

The motorways or Peage in France are wider than the British motorways, and they are in a better state of repair with less traffic on them in most cases.

Pulled for going too slow on the motorway

http://www.safermotoring.co.uk/there-minimum-speed-motorway.html Personally, I think I would fall asleep driving at a constant 50 mph on the motorway. My 110, 200 tdi seems comfortable at maintaining a steady 70 mph.

    Electric Fan?

I fitted a Kenlow electric fan on mine. I ended up going back to a Viscos fan. My thinking was a quicker engine warm up time and perhaps the heating system would improve. It didn't make any difference what so ever. Oh, an I read reports about improved fuel economy. That was also rubbish. The...

    Snow Chains

    Yes, and illegal in France.

    Snow Chains

You can of course use winter tires. Would be the best for snow conditions, but remember they are usually made from a softer rubber compound so will get ripped to bits at the first signs of any off roading and will wear out quicker in temperatures above +9C.

    Snow Chains

This is the sort of snow conditions we had here last week which is about normal for the beginning of December. We are at 900 meters here. The snow is fluffy not much ice.The At2's got me up here ok but I had difficulty doing a three point turn as there was no momentum to keep the Defender going...

    Snow Chains

This clip below is fairly informative.: The rubber compound on snow tires is softer than summer or mud tires hence why they wear out quicker in temperatures above 9C. Mud tires have to be able to dig into the mud which requires a harder tire compound.

    Snow Chains

Not a legal requirement to carry snow chains here in France but is a legal requirement to have them fitted in certain areas like the roads leading up to the Alps. The Gendarme will not let you up the mountain pass. And the posties around here in the Massif central have Renault Kangoo's 2x4 and...

    Spacer

None of them. They will shorten the life of your wheel bearings. I would leave standard or go for greater offset wheel. There is a thread on here somewhere which explains the reasoning in a far more technical way.
