    Sedimenter vs lift pump

I'm plumbing my fuel system at the moment. I can preserve the normal route - tank to sedimenter to lift pump to filter to engine. The sedimenter's mounted on the bulkhead next to the fuel filter, so a neater solution would be to flow from tank to lift pump to sedimenter to fuel filter to engine...

Anyone done a rear engined special?

Good point - thankyou. Will take a closer look at the Disco solution.

Anyone done a rear engined special?

...ignore me, I've found it! There are detents on all three positions. The third position was just further back than I expected.

Anyone done a rear engined special?

Thanks all. I'm lengthening the hi/lo shift lever (the business end, not the lever in the cab) so that forces on a cable solution are lower. However, when I push it back and forth, I can only feel two detent positions. Should there be three, i.e. does neutral have a detent, or is it just...

Anyone done a rear engined special?

I'm making a cab forward truck, which means the gearbox is well aft of the driver. The cab tilts, which complicates matters too.

Anyone done a rear engined special?

Bit of a general enquiry - has anyone built a rear engined LR of any type, and if so - how did you hook up the transfer box shifter and the diff lock?

    300tdi cooling circuit?

Thankyou all - much appreciated. The heater feed's definitely running from pump exit to pump inlet, so will flow - but the routing's longer and more tortuous than the original setup, so I'm concerned about the possible consequences of airlocking it. Clearly the heater won't work well if so; that...

    300tdi cooling circuit?

Shameless thread bump - does anyone know the 300tdi cooling system inside out?

    300tdi cooling circuit?

I'm re-routing the cooling circuit on my project truck. The heater circuit has moved. Normally, a hose comes out of the main cooling circuit downstream of the water pump, into the rigid pipe that runs over the top of the engine, into the heater, back from the heater and into the back of the...

Anyone breaking a Disco? Fuel pipe fittings wanted!

I'm looking to buy a set of fuel feed and return fittings for a Disco 300tdi so I can make fuel pipes for my Swimtruck charity project: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/frankentruck-lives.324682/ Anyone breaking a Disco and willing to chop these off and send them my way?

    110 Hardtop Seal/Leak

Forgive me resurrecting a really old thread, but - I'm fitting some 110 hardtop panels and need new hardtop-to-body seals. Does anyone know the difference between the later Defender seals (expensive) and the earlier Defender / Series 3 seals (cheap)?

    Weight distribution

Bowler are a good shout - at least one of their team follows the project on Facebook. Is there any difference between front and rear springs on a Discovery or 90, other than the rate? Fitting some of these uprated Disco rear springs...

    Weight distribution

I'm building a cab-forward bobtail - build thread here: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/frankentruck-lives.324682/ The front springs are softer than the rear (110) springs but not by a great deal. With hindsight, I should have located the spare wheel mounts just forward of the rear wheels...

    Weight distribution

The vehicle I'm building is looking quite nose heavy (i.e. the front springs are a couple of inches more compressed than the rears at the moment; I've still got about 250kg to add to the rear but there's more stuff to go on the front too). Anyone got experience of how weight distribution...

    Disco 1 welder

Best advice I can offer to anyone setting up to weld is to get an auto-darkening mask. About £50 but the difference it made to my welding was unbelievable.

Can you replace the downpipe studs?

As it happens, I've just bought a replacement manifold gasket as I need to change the inlet manifold, so I'm expecting to remove in any case. I'll see what studs I can source.

Can you replace the downpipe studs?

Much appreciated. Much oil and two nuts it is. The vehicle's not a runner at the mo, so it might be a propane torch rather than running the engine - but good to know that there's nothing magic about them and they should be replaceable like any other studs.

Can you replace the downpipe studs?

My manifold has really rusty downpipe studs. Is it a write-off, or are they replaceable - and if so, how? Thanks in advance!

    Frankentruck lives!

Manifold now beautifully TIG welded by Paul at Derby Road and Race (p-drr.co.uk). Gave us a 50% discount for a good cause, too! Throttle cable's been routed too: And last but not least, Isuzu Trucks UK donated manual window mechanisms (never offered in this country; no wonder I was struggling...

    Which Radiator should I buy?

I had one with brass end tanks reconditioned by Applied Radiators in Burton-on-Trent. They did a really good job. In the interests of full disclosure, it was for a charity build and they did it at cost - but regardless, the workmanship was excellent.
