    Looking for a diagnosis

Actually thinking about this- I had a Transit - I know its a totally different engine... but that had an internal injector fault. That was smokey for a couple of days and then suddenly lots of white smoke and sounded like a bag of spanners... it needed recovery but it could just be a stuffed...

    Looking for a diagnosis

If it's knocking hard that tends to imply something incompressible in the cylinders or a big end that has let go. The white smoke sounds like steam or oil is getting into the cylinder although oil is usually more blue looking. The black smoke implies unburnt diesel though... Is there oil in the...

    Engine oil question TD5

AT a cold startup you could be in Tunisia, and the oil will still be too thick to adequately lubricate the engine. You choose the 100C viscosity to be what the engine designers specifiy and the W value wants to be as low as you can feasibly get it.

    Engine oil question TD5

The oil pressure will rise quicker because the oil is more viscous - that is not necessarily a good thing. At startup you have no oil at all anywhere and need to push it round the system as fast as possible - you need the oil to be as thin as possible in order to do that.

    Engine oil question TD5

The oil viscosity at running temperature will be the same though between 5W/40 he has in and 10W/40 oil. The 5W/40 though will flow better at startup - if you can get it then it's better oil than 10w/40 regardless of where you are.

    Electrical advice

Firstly if you are swapping the consumer unit as youa re then it's Part P and it needs signing off and building control need to be involved... 6sqmm cable might not have sufficient current capacity to meet the regs in case of a fault, even if you use the armour as a PE. SWA can be buried...

    Modular Steel Wheel Fitment advice

I had 235/85/16 on mine on a zero offset. You will need to flare the arches, you may not have to cut the rear though as mine were taller. If you have cheap wheel bearings fitted it'll probably let you know about it as well...

Technical data valve springs bmw m51 engine

Not a landrover but I have one in my E34 - they specified a coil distance separation I think which seemed an odd way of doing it...

    Transfer box brake drum

Never tried a Landy drum but I found for regular break drums which stuck like this pushing it back into place whilst smartly smacking the drum on the rounded surface often freed off the shoe. You can then have another go at extracting the drum.

    Disco TDi300 98 overheating (?)

I've bought more QH for my cars than other pumps and QH have never gone wrong yet. However my current 300tdi pump is an airtex and is also running fine.... so really Id pick the cheaper of those two. Bearmach - they seem also to be good quality but I couldnt say one way or the other... I would...

    300 Tdi Rebuild

washing up liquid and hot water will degrease them. Neilly is right any excess oil will make them delaminate.

    300 Tdi Rebuild

I've always found them to be extremely quiet on all the cars I've driven. But since the 300 shredded a couple of belts and I bought Dayco for it they chirp and whine... dunno why...

    300 Tdi Rebuild

If you have ribs stuck in the pulleys it makes a real row. Mine started on the drive home it'll be one little bit Im sure making the noise and it takes ages to find. Dayco belts seem to be crap all of a sudden for it.

    Flushing Diesel pump

Just a litre of water in the fuel tank - might be enough not to get drawn in at all... I personally would slacken off the top of the injectors and crank till I got diesel and then see if she starts... Did the air filter get wet at all?

    Disco TDi300 98 overheating (?)

I've never found much wrong with Airtex or QH http://www.paddockspares.com/peb500090g-water-pump-and-gasket-oe-supplier-300tdi.html

    300 Tdi Rebuild

Actually it'll be 49mm if you happen to need to reference by size but thats the later smaller one that you should have on a 96 truck. You want the 1580mm belt. Is there a penny behind the tensioner? If so get a new tensioner and chuck the penny away. What happens is that the tensioner wears and...

Loud cracking noise - rotational with rev's

Well - it does perhaps sound like that there may be a gauge fault then.... sadly no idea on defender electrics.

    Disco TDi300 98 overheating (?)

Waterpump first. With what you describe I fully expect the impellor to be somewhat worn or more likely loose on the spindle - its a known problem on these cars. It sounds like you have a reduced coolant flow through the system. Since the radiator has been replaced there wont be a restriction in...
