P38A What model do you have?

Mine is 4.0 SE (Gems), tan cloth Interior, manual heater dials with no air con, no sunroof, 16" wheels, literally a base spec which is the reason why I purchased it. Not one of these fancy HSE models with every extra, all that leads to is costly repairs IMO :p

    P38A Door Latch Issue

Just to close this one off I fitted a new front passenger side door latch today and thankfully the bouncing locks have stopped so guess those micro switches were playing up in the old latch.

    P38A Door Latch Issue

Thank you I will try the test. Can these latches be overhauled and repaired (not sure if there is a repair kit available) or is the only option an expensive new latch?

    P38A Range Rover Clonk/Shudder When Re-accelerating

Yep I marked up the prop so it all went back together in the same place as removed.

    P38A Range Rover Clonk/Shudder When Re-accelerating

Bit of an update, replaced all 4 UJs at the weekend, its certainly helped improve the situation. Also changed the front diff pinion seal whilst the prop was off as it had a slight leak and checked the front and rear diff oil. Oil was clean and clear, no burnt smell to it and no metal particles...

    P38A Door Latch Issue

Morning All, Have a strange issue on my 1997 P38a Range Rover which I am hoping somebody can advise me on or give me some pointers. Sometimes when I get out of the car and close the door the locks activate on their own (go down and back up again) without me pressing the remote. Is this likely...

    P38A Range Rover Clonk/Shudder When Re-accelerating

Thanks All, will be replacing the UJs regardless now after hearing the horror stories about them. I have never changed them and as the car is 20 years old I am sure replacing them will do no harm. Regarding the viscous test I initially made the error of leaving the gearbox in P, no wonder it...

    P38A Range Rover Clonk/Shudder When Re-accelerating

Thanks to all who have advised so far. I have checked the UJs on the props, no play in them but reading the posts on here I might just replace them anyway as a precaution as I have had the car for a while and they have never been replaced before. Can anyone recommend the best place to get them...

    P38A Range Rover Clonk/Shudder When Re-accelerating

Thank you both I will definitely check the UJs. I apologise I did check the viscous coupling, with one front wheel lifted off the ground I was able to turn the wheel using a socket on one of the wheel nuts so I think the viscous coupling is OK? I was told if the viscous was seized there would...

    P38A Range Rover Clonk/Shudder When Re-accelerating

Looking for some advice if possible please. I have a P38 Range Rover 4.0 Auto, its a 1997MY with the GEMS engine if that makes any difference. I have 3 issues, maybe they are related, I dont know thats why I thought I would post on here to gather some opinions. Problem 1 - When I am...

    P38A Shunting/rocking back and forth

Have a strange issue with my 1998 P38a Range Rover, its a 4.0 V8 auto. Sometimes when I am driving (light throttle 30-50mph) it feels like the car is shunting/rocking back and forth. Not sure if its related but another issue is when coasting (so in drive, foot off the accelerator) if I need to...

P38A Harsh Ride - Recommend Shocks?

thanks for all the comments, will try a set of OEM shocks I think. What are the best tyre pressure to use on the 16" wheels. Handbook says 28 front and 38 rear. There is usually only me in the car, 38 on the rear tyres seems high to me considering the weight is mostly at the front?

P38A Harsh Ride - Recommend Shocks?

Sorry all, yes its on the factory fit air suspension, its not and will never be as long as I own it converted to springs!

P38A Harsh Ride - Recommend Shocks?

The only polybushes I can see are on the front anti roll bar, not sure how much of a difference these would make alone.

P38A Harsh Ride - Recommend Shocks?

Can anybody please recommend a decent set of shocks to cure the 'crashy' ride on my P38 . Currently feels like every small pot hole, bump etc in the road transmits a harsh shock right through the car. Its currently got britpart shocks on which maybe the problem (had them on when I bought the...

    Heater Control Panel Wanted

Hi, My heater control panel has broken on my p38 range rover and wondered whether anybody here has one for sale? The one I need is heater panel with the manual controls but it must be one fitted with the heated seat and heated front screen switches. Basically exactly what is shown on the...

Is it possible to fit Cruise Control to my P38a?

Hi, I have a 1997 Range Rover 4.0 and I just wondered whether it is possible to retro fit the cruise control system? I suppose the first question has to be is the wiring fitted to all models which would allow me to connect up the cruise ecu? I did have a quick look at the side of the steering...

    where are the glow plugs

I agree with this, unlikely to be glow plugs, seen loads of fuel pumps give this problem, especially on 2002MY

p38 orange light on and loss of power

That codes means the needle lift sensor is not matching the crank sensor so if you have already changed the needle lift injector and checked the wiring from it then could be as KDS says
