Freelander 1 My 4th Freelander. What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

It's just the 5th one I've owned. I only have two currently and it will be one again when I've swapped all the bits over. Unfortunately don't have room to keep it for spares.

Freelander 1 My 4th Freelander. What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

And now I have Freelander number 5. This was a total bargain. It was someones hack for just driving around his croft so no MOT and a total **** tip inside. It requires far too much work to be worth putting back on the road but I wanted it for parts anyway. So now the plan is to use the hard top...

Freelander 1 Co incidence or Not 2003 TD4 AUTOMATIC

It's a standard clause in recovery subscriptions that they will expect you to pay for recovery if you call them out for the same fault again in any subscription year.

    Disco 2 Overboosting

I'll take the turbo shield off to do this.

    Freelander 1 Tailgate Handles

It seems to be almost impossible to buy stuff on ebay these days that doesn't come from China.

    Disco 2 Overboosting

I see. I meant the vacuum operated bit that opens the wastegate. Pardon my ignorance. That was going to be the first thing I checked. I can see I might have a bit more work to do then.

Freelander 1 The Holy Grail for 3 doors?

Copy and paste works just fine for pictures.

    Disco 2 Overboosting

OK, yes I have silicon hoses but they've been on since the rebuild and have given no problems. The pipe I'm talking about is the small elbow that joins the turbo outlet to the long metal pipe that runs to the intercooler inlet. Also, I've done a code read and have an overboost code so I guess...

    Disco 2 Overboosting

Disco 2, TD5, manual. Two mornings in a row driving home from work I've had the turbo exit elbow blow off and limped the rest of the way home at about 30mph. Am I right in thinking that this is probably just a sticky wastegate modulator causing overboost? I'm on night shifts at the moment so...

    Steve's disco 2 rebuild

This sequence of pictures shows how I make up brake pipe flares. This was a quick and dirty one for show, as you can see the hole in the flare is off centre. This how I did them all on my disco and I had no leaks on first fitment.

    Steve's disco 2 rebuild

Looks really good. How will it mount? You making mounts yourself or will it bolt to roof bars?

    Steve's disco 2 rebuild

Oops. I seem to have forgotten something today. Sorry about that. I'll try again tomorrow.

    Steve's disco 2 rebuild

I just flared both modulator and caliper end the same. The disc shaped pipe inserts allow you to make good flares every time without collapsing the pipe end. I'll set one up tomorrow on a bit of waste brake pipe and take some pictures so you can see how it works and the flare produced.

    Steve's disco 2 rebuild

Here you go. Once I clamp the pipe up I clamp the clamp in a vise to make it easier to work with. And that's probably the only time in my whole life that I'll ever use the word "clamp" three times in the same sentence.

    Steve's disco 2 rebuild

I'll get a photo of my flaring kit later. Don't think it has any brand name on it but it's probably similar to what you have. It was just a cheap kit I got on ebay. The new brake pipes are cupro-nickel so quite easy to flare.

    Steve's disco 2 rebuild

Mostly. All the pipes to each wheel are new. I reused the three that go across the bulkhead to the master cylinder and the drivers side front wheel, with a new section from the joint in that one. The two lines that go to the back wheels are one run each. I dispensed with the chassis to body...

Both your bumpers look very professional. The roof rack looks like it'll be just as good. Looking forward to seeing that done and fitted. Finally getting somewhere with my roof rack now after months of inactivity.

Discovery S2 2003 Face lift headlights

I thought that might be the case. I was a bit too worried about it when I put Project Disco through the first MOT after the rebuild.

Discovery S2 2003 Face lift headlights

My experience with D2 facelift headlights. I now have one headlight with a working leveling motor and one with a non-working motor. Still passed MOT with no comments about it.

So I bought another RR the other day......

That's still a problem? It's been like that for a while now. Something technical to do with moving servers or something. However, copy and paste works OK so just paste your pictures into your posts.
