Never heard of pregapped plugs been runnin deisels for a while now. But I would always check them even if you couldn't alter them. I dropped a plug once and closed the gap down slightly, took a while to work out what was wrong.

Looks OK Electric water pump with theromstatic control would be my choice of improving the cooling system. Would only run when you needed it should warm up in a steadier fashion than a mechanical thermostat and waterpump so the shock would be less on the engine components which might help...

Veg oil is fine without all this bio diesel lark just adjust the diesel content to suit the weather. If you want to you can spend a lot on oversized fuel lines and pre heaters and switched systems but just blending it for earlier engines is fine , in my experience (2.0l Hippo 170K miles).

Not noticed any to speak of but It's 100% on road except for my road (unadopted) use the defender if I'm going off road. The Hippo is fast approaching the point were there's more in the shed than on the road.

Just left mine off. Enabled me to locate the lower engine mount bolt just before it fell out. Wondered what the big noise was, the engine trying to rotate everytime I started it or pulled away! Should really investigate sooner , but I'm busy!
