    Its broken.

ECU is identical, but the Park/reverse switch wire from the ECU has a resistor fitted inline for manual use. Different years have different software, sometimes, but not for auto/manual. The wire just tells it to behave differently for things like idle speed and high idle and fuel cut etc. The...

    L322 4.4 v8 2002 wont start, Oil cooler?

Fix the cooler/oil issue, obviously... but 11.9V is very flat. At least charge it fully, but check the voltage while cranking. It's quite possible you need a battery - it can cause all manner of issues. BMW E39's with the M62TU engine often have trans error on dud batteries. These cars EAT...

Won’t drive no warning lights, v8 2000 auto.

It sounds VERY much like the transfer is in N. The clicking when you put it in P, means the trans is driving as expected, and the Park pawl is trying to engage as the output on the trans is spinning the output. Try shifting the transfer into low and try, then shift back into high and see it if...

    Strange noise, and smoke

Why is there no Fan Shroud on the Radiator? The viscous fan won't do much cooling without it.

    Land Rover Discovery 1 V8i 3,9 L EFI doesn´t start

So the compression is low in ALL cylinders? It's always one of the basics worth checking first. The compression in that spark video sounds very wrong, uneven and lumpy. It sounds like there is 100% a mechanical problem. If I had to guess; 1) maybe a jumped timing chain, or 2) a blown head...

    D1 bonnet mystery

Discos were never known for tight panel gaps... Having said that, you can loosen the bolts along the top of the wing and push them in a bit. But the birds can often still fit in the gap, to nest in there:D

    Engaging my diff lock

That sounds pretty normal. I assume you have the lock light (or should) on the dash? H to L or back is often notchy or difficult. Sideways into difflock just feels like a slight drag (my lever is a bit tight anyway) - there is no notchy, clicks, nothing. The light should come on once the lock...

I would just like to say

You shouldn't have high blood pressure owning a Land Rover!!! You spend so much time fixing it and bashing knuckles etc, that you bleed off all the excess blood so it doesn't get a chance to build up any pressure :D... My other cars are VW's, so I never build up any decent pressure ;)

Slooshing noise from behind radio? And hello all.

Like running water or bubbling dribbling water? Air in the heater can cause watery sounds... either from air in the system, a leak allowing air into the system... or... ... Shh... Head gasket issues... I have a V8 Disco 1 that does the same. It was fine until I did a coolant flush and...

    Scored myself a new job

Oh dear - you'd think an Aus would have it somewhat sorted... although one of pool car drivers at work did $8000 worth of damage in the carpark... BEFORE leaving without mentioning it! Yeah, There was actually a couple or 3 on Trademe, if you use enough obscure search words :-D Or maybe they...

    Scored myself a new job

Yeah... driving a camper isn't so easy... We have a few hirers who we could tell would have claims... just AS they left. Like missing the driveway, and taking a detour across the yard, over the footpath. down the kerb and away... So we tried to keep the front row FULL... Even though the...

    Scored myself a new job

Part of my problem, will be letting morons drive MY van... and other morons fixing MY van... :D So many of both groups have no idea... Camplify was only the fist thing I saw - I haven't even looked into others, so don't know if there are better ones. Having the insurance and "legal" side of...

    Scored myself a new job

I like this thread  I was looking at some VW Crafter 6 berth campers on tardme... Wondering if I sprung the $75K or so, if we'd get enough use over the next few years and keep enough value in it to work out OK... or should we whore it out on Camplify or similar. My wife keeps reminding...

    Its broken.

Actually, I've never checked how the rev counter functions on a V8, but it wouldn't surprise me if it used the same signal. The Engine ECU does NOT have an output to the tacho. The wire comes off the coil, goes through a resistor to keep the signal clean/arrest spikes and to the ECU, it might...

    Disco 1 V8 3.9 1996 won't start when cold

You could try the ECU coolant temp one - that would make it default to "cold" start mode (assuming the wiring is OK - again, with Rovergauge you could see what the ECU sees!) It should be the black one, with the square "timer" plug on it. You could try popping the idle hose off and dribble 1/2...

    Its broken.

If it won't even pop or fire on easy start, fuel isn't your problem - either nothing is getting into the cylinders, or there is nothing to make it go bang. Compression test first. Make sure air gets in, and gets squished properly. Then check you have decent spark the ENTIRE cranking time. Then...

    Disco 1 V8 3.9 1996 won't start when cold

A Hotwire V8? Maybe the temp sensor has failed and says the coolant temp is too warm, so it doesn't pump in enough fuel to start? Find or buy a Rovergauge cable.
