    Coolant system service

Thanks gents, I'll check the bottom hose for rad function before I change it I think. I'll check the carpets too, good point I should have noticed. Is there any grease / oil / vasaline / butter / KY I can use to ease pipes onto joints that won't bu99er the system up?

    Coolant system service

Since getting my P38 I've noticed one of it's idiosycrasies is that it looses coolant quite quickly. I don't think this is through a gasket as there is no mayo anywhere and I'm pretty sure I saw it dripping from under the car yesterday (need more time to properly dagnose as I've only had the car...

    P38 Sterio

Is there any reason technically you couldn't fit an aftermarket head unit? I'm thinking about it as mine's had a hard life and isnt' very user freindly. Are there any catches to doing a replacement, such as funny cross overs or amps?

    User Manual

I've got it downloaded at home (not there at the moment). I can't remember how big it was but I don't think it was massive. PM me your email address and I'll send it over if it's not too big when I get back tomorrow, otherwise I can send it via Skype or something?

    I've finally got one!!

Finally I found a good P38 with some history, I actually saw two very good vehicles last night, the only deciding factor was he mileage. So I'll no doubt be bugging you lot soon with lots of questions. In that spirit, are Magnecor leads worth the premium (the car's got LPG) or will these 8mm...

    who has history!

I still don't have a P38 yet (beaten to the last one by 3 hours) but of the three I've seen none as had any history! The next one I've booked in to see apparently has FSH but that can be a bit of a wooly description it seems.

    Steam from oil filler cap!!!

Thanks for the advice guys. I have decided not to persue that one, it's all good experience isn't it. The good thing is there seems to be a good turnover of LPG powered P38's in the market, they come up quite regularly. It took me 5 months to find my Z! Off to see another tomorrow night with...

    De-cats

Interesting, thanks. Seems like a viable way to claw back some of the 5-10% power loss of LPG.

Do you need to re-fit the cats for the MOT?

    High mileage P38

Rick, I agree, cars of this age need to be judged on their merits rather then specs. I spent 5 months looking for the correct Z32 four years ago, loads looked good in the add's, only one was OK in the flesh (the one I bought). I saw a 96 P38 with 130K on and the leather was absolutly perfect...

    Steam from oil filler cap!!!

The water level when I first saw it (cold) was less then the indicated cold level. After a run it had not changed but the run was short (<15 mins). The top hose to the rad was pretty firm so I gave it 2 mins to cool and slowly undid the expansion tank. It was so pressurised that the level...

    Steam from oil filler cap!!!

Hello agian, I'm still on the lookout for a decent P38 4.6. I saw one today which looked really relly good initially. There was little body rust, it drove nice and smoothly and even though the LPG set up was pretty old and single point it went reasonably well. The trouble started after we got...

    High mileage P38

Thanks again for the advice. I did have a look and what you all said was right, it was too much money for a too tatty vehicle. It was good experience, I've seen aother since but more about that in a separate thread I'm about to start!!

Redrange, I don't know but I can maybe help you find out. Firstly, I'd be pretty suprised if it was a switched earth but then this is a relativly quirky Britsh car, most of my experience is with Jap cars. If you've got a multi meter you can find out though. Take the bulb out and test the...

    High mileage P38

Thanks for all of the info. What about it having LPG, does this add to the price at all? I have read it's about £2k to fit a modern multi point system so it must have some bearing on the value. I'll look into the RF Transmitter thing, haven't seen that metioned yet. But what about the bore...

    Hello

Thanks for the messages, it seems like a good forum. Re the petrol consumtion, yes the Z does like a drink, I can average 19mpg over a year. I know a P38 is worse but with LPG I was hoping for the equivalent of 30mpg ish. We only run one car as the misses doesn't have a license so I can...

    High mileage P38

Hello peeps, Just after a bit of advice really, I'm off to see a '97 P38 with 165,000 miles on soon. It's described as having lots of reciepts rather then FSH. Is there anything I should be looking for specifically owing to the high mileage? I've seen adds for 200k+ P38's so I suppose they are...

    Hello

Hello everyone. I'm not a LR owner yet but the imminent arrival of my first child requires that I upgrade to a family car from my 300ZX. I'm looking for V8 P38 RR, I've had a thing for them for a while now. Hopefully soon I'll be asking all sorts of questions about why this or that doesn't...
