    Split charge question

That was my next plan - I'm going to permanently connect the batteries via a manual isolator switch for emergency jump starts.

Sounds like my ideal solution then, thanks Mcclegend. Thanks all for your help.

    Split charge question

All new clamps and leads thoughout the system - but by concern isnt what the voltage is readying its what voltage level the start battery will reach before the VSR cuts out. I'm hoping that he leisure battery will top it up or the accessories will draw from the higher voltage leisure battery...

    Split charge question

To be honest I wasnt expecting it to work like this, and I think with hindsight I would prefer a heavy duty standard relay with a trigger from the alternator/ignition instead of the VSR, that way I would know the batteries are isolated with the ignition off. My main concern though is that my...

    Split charge question

I've just fitted a split charge system using a Durite voltage sensing relay (a kit from 'Simply Split Charge') to my TD5 110. The relay is calibrated to connect the batteries at 13.3V and disconnect at 12.65V and works both ways so a charge on either battery activates the relay and connects the...

Right hand tail light not working

I'll run one from the left then for now. Do you know where the header is?

Right hand tail light not working

That's what I was thinking. I think it's going to be easier to run a fresh wire to the holder than to try to trace the fault (possibly within the loom). If I was to do this though, where is the best place to run it from? I don't really like the idea of running it from the LH tail lamp as this...

Right hand tail light not working

On my 1999 110 TD5 Defender, my right-hand right hand tail light has stopped working. The bulb was blown but replacing it has not fixed the problem. All other lights work, including the right-hand brake light and right-hand side light so that rules out a fuse or earth problem. I measured the...

Defender TD5 rough running at low speed cured by switching off and on

Hi all, Yesterday I drove my Defender TD5 non-stop for 300 miles, 5 hours. Amazingly, we hit no traffic problems so I did not come out of 4th/5th gear for the entire trip. As usual the Defender performed faultlessly, cruising at 65-75mph. However, coming off the motorway near home, the engine...

TD5 Leaking heater matrix - safe to bypass?

Great, thanks. As I thought, just needed a second opinion. Thanks

TD5 Leaking heater matrix - safe to bypass?

Hi, yesterday the heater matrix on my TD5 sprung a leak. I bypassed it by connecting the input hose to the output hose with a small piece of copper pipe. Can someone confirm if this is a safe medium-term fix or not. I could do without the expense of buying a new matrix at the moment and I have a...

    No lights at all

I have problem with my lights on my TD5, I have no headlights, sidelights, tail lights or dash indicator for headlights. Full beam is working (but I know this comes from a different source. I have diagnosed the problem as far as I can and replaced various parts but have now drawn a blank...

    Ignition only live while starting

Thanks for the suggestion, it was the ignition barrel. Loop of wire and I'm mobile again.

    Ignition only live while starting

An update - there is power to the correct circuits at P1 and P3 but dead at P2 (relay behind fuses clicks at P2 presumably switching off). The auxiliary accessories are only live at P1 and P3 also, not P2. It does seem to point to the ignition barrel.

    Ignition only live while starting

Last week my starter began playing up on my 1999 TD5 - sometimes starting first time, other times click/clunk on the solenoid 2 or 3 times before starting. I know what this problem is and intend to fit a contacts kit to fix it. However, this morning, I came to start it, same problem, but then...

    Defender TD5 Blower not working

Hi, my Defender TD5 blower has not worked for a while. Very occasionally, it will start blowing for anything from a few seconds to a few minutes but then will be totally dead for months at a time. I'm suspecting a short somewhere. I've tested the switch and it is earthing correctly. When I take...

    Alarm problem

Just thought I'd post to let you know my problem is fixed. Dealer diagnosed it as a faulty bonnet switch. Replaced it and it's been behaving for 2 weeks now. Thanks for the info.

    Alarm problem

Sorry about the lack of introduction, that was rude of me. I have now rectified this. Thanks for your reply Shifty1962 - I've tested this and the alarm does still sound will all the switches removed, even if I'm in the car. You say 'it should' - why is that? - volumetric sensor? I will change...

    Hi from Stoke-on-Trent

Hi all, Gordon here from Stoke-on-Trent. I'm new to Land Rovers, only having owned my 1999 Defender 110 TD5 for 2 weeks but loving it already. I decided to buy something that would make me smile after being made redundant and losing my company car. I'm also a Triumph enthusiast - I've owned a...
