hi guys i'm looking to convert my hardtop to a truck cab how much should i expect to pay for reasonable complete cab and tailgate? I assume the cab sits on top of the bulkhead behind drivers seat or are there some other bits I need? Thanks

Have you checked the timing? If the chain has stretched you will be running advance so yes adjusting the pump will help, if you can turn it enough to compensate. Is the smoke only start up? If so you probably need a new set of valve stem seals or maybe even valves and guides depending on how...

Why bother with the screw? It is only there to hold the drum on during build before the wheel is put on. The wheel clamps the whole lot together. I never use them as all they do is cause issues when trying to take drum off next time. As for wheel not turning sounds like just needed to adjust...

I had carpeted the footwells and had a leak behind the carpet that eventually routed the foot well through without me realising. Since I have taken carpet out no further problems. Carpeting not recommended

I know you've done it now but I always use a ground down 1/2 inch socket and short extension bar makes life a lot easier than spannering. Socket only has a few mill section now but still use it for all my land Rover jobs and its still going strong.

Has to be blue. Red is only for modern engines that have compatible seals and materials. It will attack brass and incompatible metals.

How have you decided its the stem oil seals? If there is loads of smoke it probably isn't just the stem seals. I've spent loads of time chasing round the engine to stop smoke and in my experience u'll be lucky if it is just the seals. When do you get the smoke and what colour?

Gotta be an earth fault mine always are. As blue beastly says get a multi meter and check 12v feed if you have that is an earth problem. Build holders are prone to corrosion and hence poor earthing, also clean up where the ring terminal attaches to rad panel. Enjoy she'll keep you busy for years

Thanks for the advice guys. Will get the brake cleaner out and try hunting for leaks first. Not got breather system fitted as an early 2a. Don't have pulley timing point so set dizzy via multi meter. Won't get chance to fiddle till next weekend but will keep u posted.

So far replaced coil, HT leads, and condenser. Reset points gap and valve clearances. Cant tell you if hot running issue is sorted as it now wont run without choke. What happens now is it starts and runs fine when on choke. Slowly put choke in and engine dies. Have tried increasing idle speed...

Just checked it is a 12v coil. Can't say for sure it is ignition related as had a few issues with carb float sticking if not used for many weeks. I know I am getting fuel to carb and can't see how it might be susceptible to heat other than float sticking again. Coil was too hot to hold on...

Thanks guys. Not used to petrols as always had diesel before so wasn't sure if hot coil was normal. Its got a new dizzy so hopefully not condenser, possibly coil then. Will get a new one as never hurts to have a spare. Will let you know how i get on. Cheers
