I've just sold my BMW 740i V8 and bought a Discovery :( ......... :) The BM did an average of 28mpg motorway driving and 20 - 22mpg around town - I guess that's down to gearing and tuning?

Bonneybaggot - fantastic idea! I could have saved myself a few bob.. Are there any specific areas under the bonnet (Battery, alternator etc) that need to be "protected" from a power jet? Is it safest to have the engine running while spraying with water?

Is it something the newer engines (not only land Rover) can do, or are the engine management systems too delicate for the odd gallon of petrol?

If you've gone to the trouble to name your Discovery, it's only right to give it a personal hand job. I wouldn't want any other "stranger" messing about with "my Kooga's" underbelly.. :)

I should have mentioned : I'll be in minus zero temperatures for a couple of months each year - the waxing is more of a temperature concern when I'm in the "mountains" :)

Has anybody had problems with using additives to prevent waxing? I read somewhere on the web that you can buy a "preheater" system for the fuel which negates the use of additives and is more eco friendly :rolleyes:, but it sounds a bit dodgy to me..

I've read through most of the old posts regarding sunroof leaks etc. Is there anywhere that sells an after market sunroof panel kit ie. something that maybe seals off the whole sunroof area for front and back glass area?

Thanks for the replies. From what I can gather, the 200 tdi has a raised oil filler cap and the dip stick is in a different position from the 300tdi?

I've just looked at an R reg (Aug '97) Disco. It appears to have the 200tdi engine - It's a 3 door so I wondered if it was just a late registered 200tdi? I thought the 300tdi had a different lump under the bonnet from the 200 tdi? With a flatter Rocker/head cover etc? Any help appreciated

I'm still trying to buy a decent second hand Disco, and, like everyone else looking, I'm finding it difficult to find a decent one.... Apart from having a Service history and checking the obvious Disco faults, is there a "rule of thumb" on what not to buy? Is the "shopping trolley"...

Is there any consensus on the best gearbox for towing? Does the auto box work as effectively as a manual with hi-lo and difflock? Hoping you can assist regards Paul
