Street Legal Diesel Defender in the States

The body on my disco is starting to rot, may buy the Sahara kit stick on there instead of fixing it. Then get something else, more fuel efficient for a daily driver. Disco has to go as a daily driver this spring.

Street Legal Diesel Defender in the States

I looked at sticking a Defender body on a 100" frame(after watching "A 4x4 is Born"), but I want something a little bigger. I'd like 4 doors with a small pickup bed.

Street Legal Diesel Defender in the States

I'm near a rich area on the gulf coast. Rusted out RR classics are fairly easy to come by.

Street Legal Diesel Defender in the States

Its only ~2.17GPB($3.50USD) per gallon where I'm at, but when you've got a long ways to drive and a gallon only gets you 12 miles it gets expensive. I'm thinking about sticking RR classic or disco running gear underneath a Defender frame(LAND ROVER PARTS - CHASSIS DEFENDER 110 NAS GALVANIZED)...

Street Legal Diesel Defender in the States

Looking on another site, Here is the answer to the "Can I import a...Defender?" question. - Land Rover Forums - Land Rover Enthusiast Forum Going give that dealership a call Monday and find out just how legal that defender is. My v8 disco is killing me on fuel, I don't want another brick...

Street Legal Diesel Defender in the States

It doesn't meet the DOT safety requirements. Then the regulations for small diesels here are stupid from what I understand. ... I wonder how many Defenders were sold in Mexico? Bit suicidal going across the border, but its a lot closer than Canada.

Street Legal Diesel Defender in the States

I got bored and had a scroll through craigslist, holy **** what did I find. 1987 Land Rover DEFENDER 90 Apparently its got a 2.5 diesel, 5 speed manual, and its titled & inspected. I need to find out how they got it over here and street legal. I'd love to get a 110 over here across the pond...

    Land Rover as first car?

A 98 disco was(is) my first vehicle. Its been alright, replaced u-joints, a cv joint, and wheel bearings. Mine has the V8 and the 12MPG is slightly annoying even here in the states. I'm looking to replace it with something a little bigger that has a diesel and a pickup bed. Since I can not get...

Do you sleep in your Landy?

I got **** drunk one night and passed out on a bench outside. Woke up a few hours later still drunk and covered in mosquitoes, so I stumbled over and climbed into the back seat of my disco and slept another 4 hours. Wasn't too bad, better than most other vehicles I've slept in. :p

Why did you buy a disco!!

Cheapest 4x4 I could find, and I thought it would be a bit of an oddity around here. (I was wrong.)

    100" Defender.

I've got quite the issue... I want a defender and I live in the states. What I do see is there are quite a few crapped-out RR Classics around here. Before I even look more at the legality issues, which I assume will screw me over, what are the chances of me getting a decent defender body out...

The ever so common vibration while accelerating problem.

From what I can tell the play is in the wheel bearing. The main oil seal is slightly wet and looks like it may be slowly leaking.

The ever so common vibration while accelerating problem.

Well, my disco started vibrating while accelerating... I'm pretty sure I've traced the issue to the front, right wheel which has a small amount of play in it that the other side does not. I've been trying to get the 1/2" nut off the top of the swivel pin housing to check the oil, but its...

How to start an engine in winter

I went by and got some fuel. $3.25 for 93 octane.

I'm proud of my little landy.

Went out again this weekend. My disco failed horribly on me. I tried to pull out a chevy 2500 with its rear-end sunk. I didn't even budge the damn thing...

How to start an engine in winter

Actually, I might be able to get some 90 octane for around $3.00 a gallon. ;)

How to start an engine in winter

Hell, I'm on the gulf, its not suppose to. It got down to around 32 here one morning. Damn disco acted like it didn't want to start then knocked for a minute or two.

How to start an engine in winter

My disco hates the cold more than I do.

Can't say too much bad about the engineering on Land Rovers, but the build quality... The build quality leaves a little to be desired...

    Hypothetical MOT failure question

Lol @ MOT Glad we don't have something that strict here. I did some research and my disco would fail. Its got a messed up windshield wiper I've been to lazy to replace.
