What have you done to your Landie today.

Introduced the Freelander to deep snow on Dartmoor. Performed well in deep snow, thanks to the new VCU from Bell Engineering, a plug for them. Managed to rescue an Astra Van, which was well stuck. Bring on more snow!

Are 'Freelander Spares UK' rip off merchants?

Hi there, congratulations on the new arrival. I ordered my VCU on, I think, a Monday, it was dispatched on Thursday and I received it on Friday. They send a return label and the cost of the return is included in the purchase price. The bearings where shot on my old one, thank you Freelander...

Are 'Freelander Spares UK' rip off merchants?

Hi all. I hope you all had a good Christmas and that the new year smiles on one and all. Just to update this thread my Freelander now has a fully working VCU courtesy of Bell Engineering. Thanks to them for their good service and functioning part. Because the VCU I returned came from where it...

Are 'Freelander Spares UK' rip off merchants?

Good morning all. The Land over guy I have spoken to mentioned something about 'recalls', I will give the supplier a call. At least this will give them a chance to put things right. Fact is some, or most, of the VCU's they sell must be OK or surely they would not still be in business. Will...

Are 'Freelander Spares UK' rip off merchants?

Too true, if only hindsight were foresight. From what I have gleaned so far I reckon I must have an 'open' VCU unit. The lesson to be learned is that it is only worth trying to save money on those parts that are not critical. Some other bits, I reckon, bite the bullet and get the right part in...

Are 'Freelander Spares UK' rip off merchants?

Hi all. I haven't posted for a while but I now feel the need to put finger to keyboard. About eighteen months ago I bought a replacement VCU from Freelander Spares UK. For some time after the car was not used off road so I did not notice any issues. My son has been using the car recently and...

    Newbe :)

Topless would be good, specially mud spattered. I mean the fender of course not yourself madam. :D

    Newbe :)

Give as good as you get. Most on here are OK and can be very helpful. Consider the banter as a kind of litmus test. Could be worse, afterall, you have a yellow fender imagine the grief you would get if it were a yellow Freelander.

    Broken bracket

As a foot note the bracket was broken which allowed the slave cylinder to come off which in turn allowed the piston to come compretely out of the cylinder. So, a new bracket, £8.00 and a new slave master assembly at £65.00. The point is is that the bracket had obviously been failing for some...

    Broken bracket

Thanks for that. I've spent enough on cars for the minute, at least the doors didn't fall orf.

    Broken bracket

I just had a call from my missus who is being driven around today by my son in my 99 Freelander. They have broken down and she tells me the clutch has gone. Upon closer inspection it would appear that the bracket that holds the slave cylinder in place has broken. Does anyone know how...

    Low Life Scumbags.

The problem is that as far as the insurance copany is concerned the car is worthless and with my daughter having a £300.00 excess it was not worth involving them. Caught between a rock and a hard place is the expression that covers it, quite appropriate for Landies offroading on occasion as well...

    Low Life Scumbags.

No it certainly doesn't. If you operate within your contract that's an end to it. My original comment was directed at the police who have agreed a contract with a supplier who fails to offer a complete service in so far as they are not open 7 days a week and who think it reasonable to deny...

    Low Life Scumbags.

This is not Land Rover related but this could happen to anyone regardless of vehicle make. My daughter had her car nicked some time early on Wednesday morning by a scrote who was caught by the police but who was still so ****ed at 1100 hours Thursday morning that he was considered unfit to be...

    Alreeeet me Luuurvers!!

The only Dragon I know this side of the Tamar has retired now but she used to run the Dolphin pub down on the Barbican. She were enough to frighten a Godolphin.

    110 plastic undertray / guard

You could remove the engine. This would save the bother of removing the undertray. Alternatively roll the trattor onto its roof and let the oil drain out through the dipstick hole.

    steering wheel removal

Size 20 torque screws hold the air bag on, all very straight forward but be careful with the rotary air bag control situated behind the steering wheel. Make sure it is centralised when you remove it and put a little gaffer tape or such like on to stop it from freely rotating once removed.

    Hi

Don't worry Dinks, this is a normal reaction from the 'Trattor' driving fraternity. They are a small element of humanity who have refused to move forward in an evolutionary way, many still think the world is flat. They do not understand things like aircon and electric windows and are therefore...

    Front passenger squeaking

I had a sqeak from the pasenger side too. I couldn't figure it out for some time. Then I noticed that it only happened when my missus was in the car. Turned out it was just her trying to get the gag out which, in fairness, is difficult while wearing handcuffs.:o
