    Dont worry I've found it . It goes on the LH side of the engine bay and is for petrol engines. The diesel has the injection pump on the RH side and so there are no linkages needed on the LH side. Explains why it was just sitting in a box.

    What does it mount? The diesel "throttle cable" and linkage is a bit a of convoluted affair but I'm not sure sure where that would go. I did wonder if it was a bracket to support for the speedo cable ?

    Blue10 FYI You may find a specific website for the Freelander 2 such as Freel2.com also helpful, as the Freelander 1 and 2 are very different vehicles. No disrespect to the people on this website intended - just sharing experiences.

    I have a question about the vacuum pump on my diesel S3 project re-build. The pump has two inlet ports (I think they both suck). One goes to the brake servo (pipe attached). What is the other port for ? Should it be capped off or left open ?

It seems to be a slightly odd setup in that the cable pulls up the accelerator arm on the pump by having the other cable end fixed to the bulkhead and the cross shaft arm pushing on the outer sleeve which in effect pulls the cable up.     I had a Gunson Eezibleed that used tyre pressure to pump brake fluid through the lines but after 20 years of use it started to leak. A new one is £20 these days.

    That would be most helpful - thank you. Out of interest can I ask why you removed the engine? I'm working on the brakes at the moment. A previous owner had installed twin cylinder 11" front hubs onto to this SWB S3 and the lower cylinders on both sides had seized. They are awkward to bleed too.
