    Oil light and the aftermath

thanks for that, Raywin... Yes, I'm a member and will contact them for copies of their reports, even if it just highlights the yo-yo effect and time frame of the garage stating it was repaired ( it clearly wasn't) - it had to be transported back 3 times the following day after picking it up.

    Oil light and the aftermath

Survived? Unscathed? Is that possible? The guys at the garage told me that initially.. damage being oil pump, but seemed that was a fairy tale!

    Oil light and the aftermath

Hi.. I hope 2019 is a better year for everyone! 2018, goodbye! Just waiting for business to resume and new start an' all that.. I have decided to switch garage. I was hesitant to do this before because I was trying to build up a good relationship with the guys and they started this job.. akin to...

    Oil light and the aftermath

Thanks for your reply.. Happy New Year! Just waiting for the garages here to re-open and I'll start over again... There's a place in Airdre that sells reconditioned TD5 engines (they have a 10,000 mile warranty) but I haven't the foggiest whether that is good/bad or indifferent. My lack of...

Grand... The oil pressure importance is now crystal clear, lesson truly learnt.. When I get the Landy sorted there's no way, Jose, it will suffer the same way.. get the gauge too and watch it like a mother possessed!

    Oil light and the aftermath

Got the new turbo.. Starter shouldn't be an issue.. Have never stripped an engine (yet... Laughing.. might start educating myself) so will most likely look to the landrover garage to source this..

    Oil light and the aftermath

Is there any way of telling what is "a good used one"? Or will hoping suffice? The engine was great, no problems until now (or at least nothing that wasn't sorted by those with the skills) - served me very well. Mourning it's death and would love to find another like it...

    Oil light and the aftermath

Hi.. Not too sure about the guys doing what I asked them to.. I don't imagine it was done with malice however competence has to be questioned.. I'm not a mechanic but from what I can gather is that if the oil pressure drops and the light comes on, then the engine is going to have suffered...

    oil light and the aftermath

Seems to be a good place about 15 miles away who only work with land rovers and have a great reputation.. so that is where I'm aiming to go after the holiday hoo-ha dies down..

    Oil light and the aftermath

Thank you for your reply and insight.. As my aim is to have it back on the road and be smarter after the event, I am going to have to taken to the specialist garage..when they re-open after the holidays. Even if the local guys say they want to finish the job they started.. I have no faith in...

    Oil light and the aftermath

I kinda wished the guys at the garage suggested that in the first place.. seems pointless to fire cash at something that is goosed!

    Oil light and the aftermath

Give or take a couple of minutes... There was no odd noises but I pulled over to hard shoulder soon as it came on to check oil.. then I switched it back on but oil light didn't go off so called RAC.. They said don't drive it and said the engine could seize but the recovery guy asked to turn key...

    Oil light and the aftermath

Thanks for that.. I think I've sourced a landrover garage that loves (and fixes!) old landy's.. They are just choka until late January - I think I'll call a halt on the guys who have been trying to fix it (and failing) , get them to give me a complete rundown on all the work to date (been a...

    Oil light and the aftermath

Hi.. Thanks for response. Yip, oil light has quite obviously proven to be damaging to the engine, I'm more peeved with my limited knowledge and spending over £1500 on what might be an utter waste of time.. little point in replacing parts in an engine over the last 6 weeks and eventually conclude...

    Oil light and the aftermath

Hello to Landyzone.. Looking for those wiser to perhaps advise on this dilemma .. I drive a defender 90 TD5 (2001) and haven't minded the usual curveballs that happen when bits and bobs go wrong but just over a month ago, I was on the motorway and the oil light came on.. so I pulled over onto...

    oil light and the aftermath

Hi.. Thanks for the reply.. I think that is what my next move will be. The only reason I have left it with this garage is because they are local, and I've been trying to build up a good relationship with a garage I could trust. They have done work on it before. But now I think I should have it...
