No the stat before was fine but I replaced it anyway just in case it was temperamental.

I've driven 2x 30min trips and a hour, yea didn't skimp out I got a decent one and made sure it is fitted right (88 degree). The top hose is running cold so I don't think its not working right, and the temp gauge and sender is reading right about 68 degrees.
